It’s wild seeing where Ed came from. And wilder still seeing him here … back when he had NO IDEA how important he would become to so many of us around the world. What a tragedy to come up from so little, achieve so much, and then … gone.

I know no one's going to take me seriously but could Ed have been on the autism spectrum? so many creatives are neurodivergent and some of the greats from the past were probably as well (undiagnosed, obviously). I think that someone with an autistic level of hyperfocus can pull off Hip Hop Family Tree, especially if hiphop is his special interest. I mean, dude didnt grow up in NY and wouldve been just a white kid from pttsburgh during that era, but he pulls off an encyclopedic narrative of that time in the context of hiphop? no, i think a special-interest-based, autistic hyperfocused creative with a love for hiphop could pùll that off. if you look up "masking" in the context of neurodivergents, I can imagine Ed absorbing hiphop into his "mask", which is not meant to be manipulative or deceptive, but is a survival instinct for many neurodivergents. I say all this as someone diagnosed with ADHD late in life and has autistic traits. There are other reasons why I bring up my theory but I'll keep that to myself.

I take you seriously. I am clinically DX'd ASD, from a family w/a lot of ASD members, and I thought this as well. What Ed took and expanded from the whole concept of "kayfabe" relates heavily to a wide variety of masking strategies/ASD perspectives on social functioning. Wizzywig and the Grand Design books are also extremely ASD sorts of projects to conceive of and take on. Having a uniform, needing that level of routine and alone-time, stereotyped speech, monologuing and inadvertently saying things that rub people the wrong way, often being regarded as "weird" or "off-putting" by more extroverted neurotypical folks, B&W thinking on certain subjects, keeping only family and an exclusive group of people "close," extreme attachment to certain time periods/places/"home," collecting/hoarding special interest objects crossed w/spartan utilitarianism, early onset of gastrointestinal issues, needing "same foods" (Ed always had to have bottles of Aquafina water on hand), etc., etc. I am more of an extreme case, but from my perspective Ed was textbook ASD. Regrettably, his final note and his logic there made perfect sense to me too: ( And yes, other reasons. Being a bit too overwhelmed w/enthusiasm and excitement when you encounter a person who shares some of your special interests GREATLY exacerbates social deficits. I don't know what really happened there, and have never been in a situation like the one Ed was in, but I believe Ed, and myself tend to not even be able to keep anyone's age, gender, social status, etc. in mind when I'm interacting w/them. I think he thought he was acting in a way that the person he was communicating with would appreciate/perceive as "cool," given their shared fondness for Hunter S. Thompson, GG Allin, horror/gore/splatter, general transgressive teenage rebel stuff, etc. I will continue to miss Ed. It is increasingly difficult to be a part of this world, but we all get the alternative inevitably.

Sad that Ed killed himself. This "cancel culture" we have in the US is a shame to our society. Ed may not have been a perfect person, but I doubt he deserved the level of harassment and exclusion that he received before his death. This is why we have courts -- if he was guilty of a crime (which I do not see any evidence of any crime yet) then he could be exposed in a court of law. Not "exposed" in some slanderous text message.

USA is saturated with pedophiles who were ex judges, teachers and politicians, music moguls, artists, celebrities, sport athletes, singers, actors, It’s A SHIT SHOW of perverts who can’t differentiate between what’s appropriate and what’s inappropriate. A persons creative capacity and social strata doesn’t reveal their SEXUAL behaviors. You’re an enabler and socialized delinquent. All of the people who off themselves that are Caucasians were doing it from GUILT and the avoidance of consequences (the easy way out)…. I was kinda over what happened to Ed: now after seeing this I'm really angry again. Just goes to show that people that seem to have "build themselves" and have a good style going can be really fragile underneath it. I think also, this type of work takes so much out of you that you can end up too tired to deal with anything else.
