Yay One Spirit ! Their website is www.nativeprogress.org she is absolutely right, 90% of all moneys donated to to the Indians. I donate in many ways, the wood program, the hunger project, the Okini list, the Allen Youth center, and more. They also help with smaller projects, like soccer team equipment and uniforms, or helping by donating a used bus to pick up kids to get to the Youth Center or soccer games. One Spirit is my favorite ! They have volunteers that help with their website, their newsletter, anything you can help with. They helped build the Allen Youth center, and the Charging Buffalo Meat Processing Center, a FDA certified meat butchering facility so they can get back to their native diet of low fat buffalo meat. They can now take in business also of butchering for hunters. They ASK THE PEOPLE OF PINE RIDGE WHAT THEY NEED ! This is a hand up, not handouts. Please look up One Spirit at their website and get involved ! Thank you for the video Betty !

I'm watching this wrapped up in blankets because I can only afford to heat this room to 60. The hot water heater is off because it's also electric (expensive). When the food is gone from the fridge, we'll turn that off, too, and use an icebox outside. No TV so no cable. Just internet service. Plastic and homemade insulated drapes on the windows and doors. Looking for more work. This is unpleasant but those people have kids and it has been YEARS of shifting around. Congrats to them.

what these people need is for people to teach them the skills to build their own infrastructure. If they could found a credit union it would help to create the finances for this. What is needed is to get out of the victim role and become creaters of a brighter destiny. I know its easy for me here to tap this out on my computer and I risk sounding patronising but I dont like the motherly tone of this video. Dont give vegetables teach them how to become gardeners. Dont give them fish teach them...

Thank you Lakota people for enduring. I am so sorry for all of this pain at the hands of my culture. Thank you for holding on to tradition. Your time is coming again soon, I feel it in my soul. Now is the time to stand up, be strong again. Turn to more old ways! Reject the B.I.A.! Reject the false monetary system! You are one of the true people, and this earth needs you! You can inspire other First Nations with your strength to stand up as well! Live with peace and love, we are one!

Thank you for that awesome video . I will " pass it on " to inform my friends and relatives. Althought I am a Wasicu,I think it's a shame people are treated that way in a great country like the United States .The Lakotas deserve a better life. I had watched the documentary : "The hidden children of America", showing -among others- Robert Looks Twice who wants to be the first Native President. I would like to help those children!

I admire your strength and your courage and my heart bleeds when I think of the way your people have been treated in the past and the pitiful life many have in the reservations, dealing with alcohol, drugs , gangs , poverty and despair That's so unfair! That's why I wanted to give a hand and donate to One Spirit through PRES. I hope it can help you, even if it's not much.

Let people live in these conditions - it's INHUMANE! When the U.S. government start treat Native Americans with all due respect?! I don't know, I don't live in America, but I have feeling that since Caster's time not much has changed... many words and promises, no acts. Wake up Mr. Obama! There are several pre-election promises to fulfill that You've made to Native American People!

Slavery and the treatment of the indigenous people our forefathers did is still a curse we carry. There has never been a discussion about this as a nation and it is sad. Abortion will be seen by future generations as something just as evil. And we think we are a "Christian" nation.

I just watched this for the first time and honestly don't know how your friends made it through the nightmarish 6-year ordeal they endured. They have a strength and resilience that I don't think I could have possessed if I had been in their situation. As sad as this video was at times, it was also extremely moving and inspirational as well. Your friends' story truly shows that no matter how hard it gets, that there is always hope and to never give up, which they certainly didn't.

One of the biggest problems is that you can't have what doesn't exist. With no jobs available, 90% are unemployed. With no homes available, it's tough to have a roof over your head, with or without welfare assistance. With no transportation, it's tough just to get to the market. There are so many things missing that it is difficult to make a start.
@moondancer7212 жыл бұрын
Its not as black n white as well they put themselves into that position. I have lived in that condition (NOT on rez) I was a state lic nurse and got injured in a state funded facility. No big pay outs for the states gross under care of a nursing home. I have along with my kids live on less then min wage in the states. I am not on welfare, my kids have struggled. HOWEVER this stems from a long line of abuse by higher ups both in the US gov n the Tribe.

And I'm with you on what you said about the Buffalo and the white companies. The only reason I say 'pallets' is because they leave the pallets everywhere, and people are picking them up now and they leave so many there are enough to build houses with them.
@jonj45012 жыл бұрын
There is a hole movement going on I think a lot of people don't know about. People are learning to live with nature. I'll try to give you a web site, but this site wont let me leave links. Have you heard of Cob Homes? Cob homes are homes that are build from clay, straw, and dirt, and they are beautiful, and they are almost free to build and you don't need a contractor to build one. People are building them on they're own, for almost nothing. KZbin has a lot of videos of Cob Houses
@bettyb2211189612 жыл бұрын
@jonj450 Many would welcome that. But, it takes money & resources to produce those homes. Pallets are usually manufactured by white companies, aren't they? & land they can live off of was stolen from them. The culture lived in portable houses & didn't own the land. Only way 4 people on Pine Ridge to live their old life would B if USA depopulates sev states, remove all infrastructure (railroads, for ex) & help regenerate buffalo herds w/millions of buffalo. Not gonna happen is my guess.
@jonj45012 жыл бұрын
Maybe its time for Native American peoples to go back to living with nature, and living off of the land. If Native Americans reclaim their roots, they won't need white mans jobs. They'll have jobs in living off of nature. You hear so many people these days learning to live cheaper and better, with Cob House, Rocket Mass Heaters, Earth Shelters, Pallet Houses, and Straw Bale homes, and those are White people. Native American people know more then any other people about living with nature.

yeah too bad all the good land is taken from them and millions of buffalo were killed which they also lived off of.. do some research maybe .. they have nothing! no jobs! no movie theaters! no lakes or pools! no stores except a few tiny stores!? no motels! 50,000 across two million acres of nothing.. pine ridges and badlands... they're houses need so much work! black mold! no sewer! have you ever been there? I have! these people are good people with rich beautiful culture!! I've been out there three times and this spring will be my 4th time! I'll be bringing a donation of stuff for children! The Lakota people and friends I've made here will always be in my heart. 💗

@Varangian1915 All cruelty and greed is wrong. One cannot be compared to another. BTW, when the land was stolen, the women and children were abused and murdered. Not really so different after all.

@bettyb22111896 I agree with you. It's a disgrace how our goverment has turned a blind's eye to how these beautiful people are living. The BIA needs to answer for this. I've never been to Pine Ridge as I live in Florida, but I want to help. I'd love to go there. Why does your friend have no running water and why is the farm land being leased out? Who made that decision? Everyone has got to put this on the forefront of the media.
