The gentleman in the England rugby shirt seems like a very decent chap. I watched this video to check for similarities between the West Country and American accents, and I could really hear the similarities in his accent.

This is probably the 50th time I’ve watched this video. The algorithm keeps bringing it up and I watch it every time. One of the very best music videos anywhere.

It's eminently depressing how most people are tuned to the video in their own heads and miss the REAL WORLD. Phenomenal playing. Henri. Born in France, grew up in Clacton-On-Sea, UK and now lives in the USA. What a talent. And he sings like Elvis Presley.

I'm attempting to transcribe these. Is there anybody who can spell the word that Paul uses for the water-and-mud spot around 3:08? I managed to understand everything he said other than that single word and it's driving me crazy lol
@el_spaghetto11 күн бұрын
Here's the transcript I have so far. for Paul's monologue. And then there was another... eh, like, in the village. There was a nice apple orchard. Kids used to go in and pinch apples, hey? But the missus always put a basket out, and filled it up with apples for the kids! But they wasn't satisfied with that... they had to go to the _orchard_ and get 'em, didn't 'em!... So her baseman... her [unintelligible: sounds like "Z.D."]... Ohh, he said "Mrs. June, well you leave it to me; bide quietly," he said, "But keep an eye open, alright?" So when the kids come out of school, down they go, and come over and eats her apples, hey? So! The next day, he goes down and he puts a little nice bit of rope where they couldn't see it. But down the bottom of the orchard there was a gap. And there was a [unintelligible, I assume it might be a regional word for "slough"?] down towards that! Watery ["slough"]... water and mud! A ["slough"], that was. He said-- he never said nought. And then, ah, when they were gone, like all day... they come around from the school, four o'clock, uh-huh?... He got down to the field and watched 'em... seen 'em coming in there, and they was eating all of her apples. _He walks in!_ Of course, they've got no other way; they couldn't go back! They goes down out the _gap!_ Trips through it _big..._ and hit-- they went into the ["slough"]! (laughing) In the ["slough"] ! Then he blown his whistle. That gave the woman knowin' that was for her to come out. (cackling) Ohh, the poor kids! They was muddy all over! Yeah! And they never had any more apples pinched! They took 'em up from up the... up outside the door. Yeah!

The word is 'stug' and refers to an area of water and mud, usually around the gate in a field. Another version is 'zugs'. "Stuck like a cow in the zugs."
@MrTrotty576 күн бұрын
'So her baseman... her [unintelligible: sounds like "Z.D."].' Policeman - her see'd he. (She saw the policeman). 'Trips through it big' (Trips their feet). Good effort though!
@el_spaghetto6 күн бұрын
@@MrTrotty57 Thanks a bunch! I thought it was "stug" at first, but I couldn't find any written examples, so I couldn't be sure. And "Policeman" makes way more sense than what I had guessed. I had assumed that there was a special guard-for-hire fellow stationed at the orchard for some reason, haha.
