At least make the courses free! I would’ve been a nurse by now if the tuition was free.

Ummm pay them more, ever thought of that? When a job is more stressful and requires more education, effort and patience wouldn't that deserve way more pay than a grocery store worker whose job is not as demanding?

Let's not forget that there is still discrimination and favoritism in the work place. So maybe that's why younger generations are "deterring" from said "hero jobs"

It's amazing that the headline isn't Gen Z is waking up to reality and won't be taken advantage of by employers lol. Good! Hero jobs either give bad working conditions, lack employee support and don't pay enough.

Do not pursue IT Support jobs. They are extremely low-paid, overworked, and dealing with horrible customers. You are better off just taking a McDonald's job as it just pays as much or even more.

I had to look twice to make sure The Onion hadnt produced this. I mean yes of course 'burn out' is a problem but the REAL problem is social media. No mention of low wages and extreme workloads, no mention of corporate consolidation and union busting, no mention of some policy makers literally promoting AI as an acceptable replacement for your work etc... etc.... Im a community based social worker and I can say with certainty the harshest criticism of the social work profession will be from social workers whether it be on social media or otherwise.

i mean.... my family of nurses couldn't be around for family outings. They were overworked until they went on strike and pursued different careers. i dont need an influencer to tell me much.

“Hero jobs” sounds like a poor attempt to rebrand “essential jobs” or whatever. I’m glad people are highlighting the importance of mental health and not being taken advantage of by a company instead of promoting a silly concept like working hard for more recognition when that means going above and beyond in hopes for a pizza party later. Hopefully enough happens that companies rethink the current structure of their workforce and restructure it in a way where they think, what can they do to provide more for their workers and how to better support them instead of just what they can do to withhold as much as they can in order to profit even if that means burning out their workforce with little to no support being provided. Worked in health care doing non patient facing things, think clerical across different departments, and it took me being in a department with extreme micromanagement and complete disregard to the workers to finally quit and seek a career change. Back in school and hoping things are better once I graduate but I don’t have high hopes at all.

God forbid healthcare uses the simple and common sense solution of actually paying nurses a decent fukkin' wage. We have seen their budgets and know they can easily afford it without any need to increase the cost of other services. But we are all supposed to believe that Healthcare is too broke and operating on a tight budget. Yeah Okay. We'll just keep leaking more of your internal financials to the public until here are no nurses left. No nurses, no patient care, no more patients, no more money for healthcare. Plenty of painkillers are available on the streets for much cheaper too. This will help grow the affordable black market. Not like the risks and side effects would be any different than a legal prescription. LMFAO. I would love to see more nurses go on strike until they get an acceptable pay raise. Eventually they will lose so much money that it would be much cheaper to just pay the nurses more. It is relative pennies. And don't BS us otherwise, because we have already seen the financials and know how full of sh1t they are.

Y’all talk about how younger generations get news from social media by proving why. This isn’t a branding problem, this is a pricing problem. No one can buy your used house with terrible cheap updates with any salary. It was barely feasible before 2020 and now it’s impossible.

It doesn’t help where I’m from how many people were forced by hire ups for the jab so ever since the ultimatum, many are doing things that don’t require something like a health passport (you can comment abt how it was for safe reasons and travel and blah blah, but in all reality blue pill lib it was just to monitor you like a social credit system)

Yay! We have an aging population who will tell you: Hero jobs are under-paid, physically demanding/dangerous, have inflexible working conditions and cause burnout. It's critical youth know the truth before investing their education dollars (especially since education is more expensive than ever). The U.S. propaganda machine duped generations of youth into believing the myth hero jobs are morally superior. Women were especially susceptible to this propaganda and flooded into hero job professions driving wages down. Women in my family were teachers, nurses, and piece-rate factory workers. Each of them told me never to pursue these professions because they are mentally and physically grinding. One said her nursing job was so physically taxing she became disabled in her 50s. But she needed to work until her late 60s to qualify for Medicare. Working a job that breaks your body so badly that you cannot perform it to the end of your working life leaves you poor, disabled and reliant on the broken American safety net. She couldn't count on it, neither should you.
