Finally ! A man with a plan and a great explanation. Thank you very much. May I suggest? Completely submerge the raw boards in a 1:5 mixture of Marine Spare Varnish and whichever solvent the can lists for cleanup (or Customerservice says is the solvent they use) for an hour, and then paint after it’s dry completely. The varnish will go 3/4” into the wood, completely into our project here, and make it totally waterproof.

@Jerrell486 жыл бұрын
It does make the pull cord last longer. bigger motor faster speed. You can run a stainless steel wire along with the pull cord. Shown in another vid I have Thanks for your post

I see that your design has the inside (boat) board running out front of the outside board. This is different than other plans that have the outside board leading the way. Is there a reason and which actually works better? Regards.
@Jerrell487 жыл бұрын
No reason, for the change, I was just trying it differently

I also put a piece of rubber under the seat mount. Keeps it from sliding and doesn't damage the top of my boat seats

@kreigdernier95537 жыл бұрын
Lvl has a very low tolerance for water penetration I believe the adhesive used though strong does not hold up to constant water or moisture exposure
@Jerrell487 жыл бұрын
This is true however I have a small piece outside in the snow and rain to test its ability to stand up to moisture with no protection or paint and the wood didn't fall apart
@kreigdernier95537 жыл бұрын
Jerrell48 funny you should say that...I had a 18 inch piece of leftover lvl from my garage it was a 9.5 inch wide orange. It actually broke in half along a lateral line. But hey maybe sealing it is the key.
@imnotimportant7 жыл бұрын
Looked almost like a 1/4" mesh. Try 3/16 if you can legally use it. I catch shiners down to micro sized that are too small to use and rarely get any that gill themselves in the net. They are thick in places here, yesterday I made one throw and had a good 300-400 shiners, just over 2lbs of them.

@godofm3tal17 жыл бұрын
I see you kept the contour of the transom. Why not go straight across the whole way for maximum protection? I know you have to have a specific length for the bracket to mount to but it seems like that could just be notched out specifically for that bracket and have the rest full height for maximum splash protection

Thanks for you comment, I used a sheet of aluminum and the motor aluminum motor sheet metal cap from the same boat
@jeremyparker14156 жыл бұрын
Do you know where you can get a new cap. When I took ownership of my boat the cap was missing halfway and the wood was rotted. Therefore a new transom needs to be built.

I only use pine wood. I also think you can make larger boards with 1x12. If you are going larger, I would add more cross bracing in the middle to thwart warping

Can you mention the size of the boards you use? Thickness and dimentions and where to put the holes? And if we want a smaller version, you think just make all dimentions half the size?
