Absolute disgrace this Council. My car has been struck on Marlborough Road in Buxton for 6 days now in a foot of snow. Not seen one gritter and the roads are pure ice, so can't go anywhere. Run out of food and too hilly and far to walk to a supermarket in snow. People pay £1000s every year for this garbage. How expensive can running a truck and dropping salt be? Absolute pathetic this country and these jobsworth losers at High Peak Council are the most useless, self-righteous idiots I've ever encountered.

Sorry, but what a Lie... they certainly do not do a proper repair to Potholes in and around the High Peak...if they did, yes they would last... you very often see the guy's shovel a couple of scoops of going off Tarmac and tamp it in with their boots. To many have very little pride in the work they do!!

Potholes behind my house are older than this video and DCC hasn't done a thing. Last report in Dec 2023 not even a reply. Absolute joke.

Numerous research and reports that confirm the unit cost of private placements are cheaper than local authority. There are, I agree, bad players and some that not only over charge but also run a huge risk of going bankrupt and leaving children requiring yet more moves. That said, the way some local authorities run their homes and services certainly doesn’t help. Sequential sourcing and heads on beds approaches cause more issues than they solve. Quick win approaches that clearly cost more in the long run. Many children have had well over 5 foster placements before they get to children’s homes. Why? Because they’re cheaper. Damage further embedded and even more growing distrust in adults making decisions about them. There needs to be more needs led approaches - if a child needs a children’s home first (the extra staffing, wrap-around support, therapeutic approaches, access to psychology support and staff changes preventing burn out seen by foster carers) that is what they should get (one that can specifically meet their needs) with plans to review and downstep at the right time. This means joined up thinking between fostering, placement teams, social work teams, commissioning etc. Placements must be matched with the area and the children living in the homes - if not you soon end up with needing 5 emergency placements rather than just one when the home is in chaos. Often Ofsted will instruct not to place as a result - again costly.

Nice to see Victory Quarry again and that classic DCC Ranger coat. I enjoyed my time there as a Ranger. The best flora is in the middle of the site on the chunk of unquarried stone between the two lakes. I trust this part will be kept fairly tree free as it's quite valuable as open land.
