think about it for a moment, he has sanded a pit in the center two combustion chambers, he hasn’t checked for warpage prior. You shouldn’t scratch a machined surface unless you know what you’re doing and are modifiying it with intent like porting or whatever.

I've never tried it but I figure I would if I was on a tight budget. Generally I just work on my own cars or a friend and such cars are not Rolls Royce cars...lol. I'll clean the valves and hand lapp them back in, or add an extra 10 pounds of torque to straighten out any warpage. Good to go...

This is fine. I mean for the conditions that these people are living in, to expect them to bring this to a machine shop let alone have one available to skim the head is not an option. Also not everyone can pull money out their ass. People saying this is the wrong way to go are the reason why warning labels exist. Also a tip for anyone doing this is to just cover the oil port with something because that dust will go there and mess your cam journals up. Just don't forget to uncover it.

As an engine builder and qualified auto machinist, this is a dumb idea. and it won't give you a flat surface for sealing a head gasket, it also won't give you the correct bite on the head face to seal a gasket properly. If you have any brains you wont do this.
@MrSunrise-
@MrSunrise- Жыл бұрын
I did it to a damaged head on a Yamaha RD400 and it worked just fine. I dismounted our bathroom mirror and supported it on a flat surface with a layer of cloth in between to preserve the coating and used only the weight of the head on 400 emery paper. As another commenter pointed out, if you are in the desperate circumstances of these people, it's worth a try - the worst that can happen is it still leaks. Yes, you are qualified; no, you can't imagine what it's like in rural Pakistan or India.

@@MrSunrise- A head gasket leak around the cylinder seal can melt values and pistons. it may well 'work' however is not standard industry practice. be my guest if you want to risk your engine. some engine builder will be happy when you take it to him and you have to pay for it to be repaired properly. how do you know your head need machining flat anyway? did you check it? probably why it 'worked' because the head was not warped.did you do a compression check to see it you had the right compression? did you do a leak down test? In the industry we call these repairs cowboys stuff.

as a fellow engine builder, pound sand. these are indians with the sandal stamp of approval. As many other videos show, this is not only a valid way to get a seal (albeit, not a perfect one like with a full machine shop and a surfacing mill) but it's effective enough to not have anyone worry the difference

Friend, first of all, thank you very much for watching my video and for commenting, it is not possible to finish like this with stone and glass, without a single machine, take a glass like this, and try to polish it with a metal paper 80 or 60 number paper under the glass you can,I will give a video like this and you will understand.
