Can you tell me if I need to soak the sunflower or pumpkin seeds the night before? What does hulled mean? Can I use chia seeds and should I add them to the mixture or keep them separate like the flax sees? Thank you Patricia

So first batch, 2,5 dl. boiled millet with 1,2 l water and miso and sweetener. How much is left then? How much water should be used for det rest of the boiled miso?

Do you get an earthy flavour in the milk? I tried with little millet and it has an earthy/bitter taste which I cannot get rid of.

Some recipes call for you to put dried fruit (dates, figs, etc) directly into the (first) fermentation jar, saying that it helps feed and ferment the kefir. But now I am seeing that a lot of people flavour the water kefir AFTER the first fermentation. Which works best? Is the dried fruit NOT for feeding the grains?
@JohnM...
@JohnM... 5 жыл бұрын
It's just extra sugar for them. There's no flavour there. BUT, wash them with filtered water first, as they may have preservatives/coating on them which might damage grains. Also, throw in half a (cleaned) egg shell. The grains love calcium.
@petropavlovskkamchatskiy1917

@@JohnM... Ah! Cúla-búla! So it's just for the extra sugar. Thanks for they info. Will in the calcium too. Thanks.

I add my fruit to the second ferment. When it’s ferment 2 days with sugar and water I strain it into another jar, then add ginger and lemon and leave another day, strain again and it makes a pleasant drink, I also make sure I close the bottle top and it becomes super fizzy.

so just wanna say, milk kefir, by definition, contains no lactose. the grains feed on the milk's sugar ( the lactose ) and create the probiotics. please stop peddling this false rumor

wondering if it's personal choice to not include fruit with the first fermentation... with most kefir, including my own, in the initial fermentation, fruit is also used, along with lemon pieces, not only to keep the grains super happy (water kefir looooooves lemon!), but to add great flavor (you can use just about any type of fruit.. ginger is also amazing to add... have fun, play with it!) after the initial 2-4 day ferment, strain out grains and fruit ... keep grains, toss fruit.. bottle & cap the kefir, leaving on counter for a few days until you notice lots of bubbles.. then put in fridge for a day or more (to slow/stopfermentation process) and enjoy an amazing soda-like treat that is actually good for you :)

Why are your grains so dark?
@theeclecticanimist4415
@theeclecticanimist4415 5 жыл бұрын
has to do with the type of sugar she uses.. can also be from using molasses...the darker the material you use your grains with, the darker the grains will be. One of my favorite water kefir drinks i make with beets.. and have neon pink grains from it hehe (tastes ah-maaaay-zing though!)
