Now don’t let that cold take hold, I don’t know about Vic (can’t remember the last time I had a whiff of that) but I lost my sense of smell with the flu but could certainly smell the manure that day (it sure was ripe! 🤣) Yes it came together pretty quickly this one, apart from a bit of tweaking I kind of edited it the way it just fell together on the day so fairly simple to reach the end result! Yes a nice mix of equipment, 30-year-old tractor and nearly new spreader but a good well-matched combination and yes the Bunning machines are very well liked in the Cumbrian area. Oh that engine note from the Case-IH 1056XL turbo is definitely music to an enthusiasts ear, a lovely snarl to the engine especially when changing gear up the hills and topped off by that turbo whistle, beautiful! Even when idling reversing into the yard it sounds powerful, a proper old-school straight-6! I agree both the Case and the Matbro have been very well looked after, a credit to the owners and I also wonder how the modern machines will fare in 30-40 years time? With most new machines technology being very electronic based you wonder how it will hold up in years to come while the older machines being more mechanicaly minded are I imagine a lot more easier to maintain, repair and keep going over the years. Now I know all about your experiences and escapades from your youth, you’re still around to tell the tales though 🤣 The 1056 was very stable on those hills (believe me it was very slippery) but I think it’s superb traction was down to both a careful operator who knows the machine and land well and not overfilling the spreader thus staying well within the combinations safety limits! Ah yes that final landscape shot, I had to put that in as when I looked back I thought now that’s some view! Always great to hear from you my friend and I’m so glad you enjoyed the seasonal video but I was also happy to get home and have a nice warm bath! Take care Fraser, hope to hear from you soon. @@tomrob64 Now that’s a fine selection of classics throughout the years Tommy. Some great tractors there, I’d have been happy operating any of those. If there’s any engine that’s going to better the 1056 it’s going to have to be a V8 in the Massey 1155 but there’s one tractor that stands out from your list and that’s the NH 8160. I’ve only ever seen one and that was in a dealership yard about 1997/8 and I’ve never seen another since. Definitely not many of those around! Cheers, David.

@davidwinthrop7077 I couldn't see the number of the chopper. We had a yellow 525, the chopper on the video looked like a 719. Our 719 was red. We sold the 8240 at our farm sale, the local straw dealer bought and the last thing I heard they had put a turbo on it. It always was the poor man's 83. Thank you for your comment

@ You’re exactly right it’s a 719 model so in between the red 719 and a 525. There were a lot of dealer fitted turbos fitted to 8240 & 7840s up here in the 1990s so I guess a 82 is a poor mans 83 and a 78 a poor mans 82 but with a turbo on the same power anyways and probably save a bit money too! @ Oh the 12/12 shuttle box was and still is a brilliant transmission and there’s still lots of farmers in my area operating MF 300 series tractors with the 12/12 in my area and it’s highly regarded especially for loader work. Ah yes “Six Sixies” the title has been running in my head for a while now and talking about the grunt available I reckon on totalling the six up there’s about 700hp on tap! These machines and of the decade before are my era so I’ve had experience of a couple but not all in the past but you’re right in saying the Ford 8240 was making pulling that plough up some pretty sticky land look effortless without even a puff of smoke. The same goes for it driving the NH 719 forager, clearly working hard but without any reek just a glorious soundtrack through that straight pipe! As for the MF 399 and those Cambridge rolls, it was like it was almost floating on air and just skimming across the surface! It was a nice selection Fraser, very varied but all very distinct identity’s too which is what I love about this era of farm machinery and as for the muck spreaders if you lived down here you’d see plenty in action as I think almost every farmer I know still spreads the smelly solid stuff! I did enjoy the time off, well most of it anyways as I’ve ended up with the flu so after a visit to the out of hours doctor last night who gave me enough tablets that I’m rattling around instead of going back to work today as planned I’m signed off until the middle of next week so I’ll be lying in my bed too you cheeky bugger! (You can go off people you know 🤣🤣) Good to hear from you as always my friend, you take care and with this cold weather here (better than the horrendous rain we’ve had) keep wrapped up! A lot of good points there, I’m sure the clamp walls are earth banked and not concrete which as you say are prone to rain damage therefore contaminating the crop hence that’s why you saved yourself the waste and made the move to wrapped bale silage. A lot of money involved in constructing new buildings especially with rising costs elsewhere but most in my area seem to have undercover clamps. I think you’re correct on the inside walls being plastic lined, more than likely it’s to avoid effluent damage which over time will seep into cracks in the walls. Sounds like you’ve had a busy afternoon, yes cold but better than the rain but keeps you active and just think how much you’ve saved on stamps! Ah yes doesn’t this year’s summer and those green fields seem so long ago, roll on Spring 2025! Yes not exactly an easy life but certainly a lot more output and comfort compared to the likes of those MF 135s with proper air-con (either doors off or the cab removed all together) and an old tin seat with straw filled fertiliser for comfort if you were lucky (I well remember those sore bum days!) Yes all capable machines, the JCBs especially the 419S are very impressive but the MF 390 is also a great outfit, plenty of pushing power for 80hp and very manoeuvrable in the confines of the closed pit. Yes a huge thanks for all the owners for kindly letting me film and post their wonderful machinery working on the land, they’re a very friendly bunch and I know from talking to them they love to see their equipment on film and to hear enthusiasts such as yourself complimenting them on its condition. Fingers crossed next year I’ve some new pastures and machines to visit, hopefully all going well I’ll be there to capture the action on film. Ah many thanks Fraser, your kind words make it all worthwhile, I love being out in the countryside anyways but it’s nice to capture that moment in time and for it to be appreciated by the likes of both you and other fellow farming enthusiasts. I’m sure we will have a nice Christmas as I hope you have too my friend and here’s to 2025 and hopefully a good spring/ summer season to get out in those fields. Take care Fraser and all the best. I was just saying to Anna, my partner this last weekend that I hadn’t heard from Fraser and was hoping he was okay which clearly you weren’t? I hope your illness wasn’t anything too serious and you’re now on the mend and feeling a lot better. Now onto these foraging outfits and as you say they’re all wonderful outfits that although basically doing the same task harvesting the grass they’re all very different. Have to agree with you the Fendt/ Mengele reverse drive is very innovative and certainly a one off round here and like you always puts a smile on my face as does Jason it’s owner who is quite a character! As for the Claas Jaguar 960, it’s a flying machine and the trailer drivers need to be on their toes keeping up with it. I’ve definitely a soft spot for the JF FCT 850 though, it’s a beautifully kept and maintained machine, I’ve known the owners for many years and like all their machinery (especially that mint MF 7614) it’s a credit to them how well they look after their machinery. Will have to catch up with it again on its 30th anniversary in 2025! Yes a nice mix, hopefully we’ll have a good summer next year (this one definitely wasn’t one of the best) and I’ll catch up with a few more machines then. Thank you as always Fraser, I’m pleased the video cheered you up especially as there’s less daylight where the days seem shorter and the dark nights longer! I’m well thanks and looking forward to finishing work for the year next Wednesday and a well earned couple of weeks rest. I’m just ready to relax with a good book, watch a couple of old films, some precious time off with my partner and no alarm going off at 4.30 in the morning! I know Christmas can be a difficult time especially if you’ve lost someone close to you as I know you have. We both lost both our parents years ago and they’re always in our thoughts as is Alfie dog, our lovely golden Labrador who we lost 3 years ago after 12 years of fun and friendship. He was always so excited on Christmas day opening his presents (and of course going on an extra walk!) though he was more interested in the tasty treats we wrapped for him rather than the toys! @@frasermathers2287 Morning Fraser and apologies for my late reply as it’s been a very busy last couple of days doing some last Christmas gift shopping and I’ve been out with my band last night (sitting in the quiet now after the loud music last night!) Your more than welcome my friend, like you have in your past I work very long hours and it catches up with us and we seem to spend more time in work than we do with our loved ones. Me and Anna only seem to get a couple of hours company through the weekly evenings (she works weekends) as I need to be in bed by 9 as the alarm goes off at 4.30 so each minute is precious to us and we try to make the most of it and enjoy our time off together. It can indeed be a difficult time of year Fraser especially when you’ve lost a loved one as you have with Jan and many memories come into our thoughts but hopefully good ones and not dwell on the sadness too much. Yes we lost Alfie just before Christmas 2021, it was heartbreaking but he didn’t like to see us sad so we think of the happy times with him. Yes he was always with me in the fields but as for standing by my side, well he was more interested in exploring the field and surroundings himself following his nose as usual! We will enjoy Christmas, just 2-3 days off together but we’ll make the most of it and thank you for your friendship too Fraser, you know I love to and look forward to hearing from you when I post a video, it makes it all worthwhile having such great feedback that is so genuine and warming. If I had to choose it would be the trailed foragers, not only because they’re getting less and less used but because these two have been with the owners for a long time and both are so well maintained and therefore very reliable year after year. The owners of the International outfit who farm in the fells were worried that they wouldn’t even get a round bale silage crop and then after weeks of rain the last week of July they and their neighbours managed to get both. I’m pleased you liked the black and white merging into colour and actually it was you that planted the idea into my head re. your comment on the classic MF baling video from earlier this year (no royalties though, Christmas is fast approaching so money is a bit tight 🤣 However I thought I would try it and I’m pleased it came out well and thanks for the suggestion and compliments. They’re all lovely outfits, beautifully kept and as you say farmers were very loyal to their brands and local dealers back then, maybe not as much now though as sadly a few of the smaller local dealers are disappearing especially in this area and the emphasis is more on who can supply a 200hp tractor at the best price! I’m with you on the International 475 though, a beautiful old girl, hard to believe she’s 46 years young and an absolute credit to the owners and yes I well remember your escapades from your youthful days! 🤣 No snow here but been a chilly week, -7 degrees at work this morning but I’m tough skinned and would rather have a frost than wet weather during my 12 hour shift at the grindstone!
