Good morning David and what a sight to behold, not one, but two New Holland TX combines harvesting winter barley. You don't see many of them up my way anymore, although my neighbour used to run two NH TX63s with the last one only being sold about 4 years ago, but as his acreage has grown(considerably), the combine fleet changed to 4 x Claas LEXION 7500 series all with TerraTracs. It sure did look a little spongy underfoot and with very little stour at the header, was probably not coming off at the best moisture content, but with the weather being the way it has been, you have to take every opportunity when you can. Having said that, couldn't have been too bad with the MF 7718S still being able to bale, and both combines were coping admirably with the conditions. So pleased you were able to capture them together David, and as much as I love all the current technology, it's really great to be able to go back several decades and watch machines like these still earning their corn! (Sorry for the little idiom). As much as the new technology has sped things up and made operation easier for the operator, I would love to know what the grain loss was on today's modern combines versus 3 decades ago machines. Hope your week has been good despite current weather and as always my friend, my thanks for a great video. Cheers, Fraser.

@@frasermathers2287 A good afternoon to you Fraser and good to hear from you my friend. Yes two for the price of one this week and a very tidy pair at that. Still a few NH TXs operating round here, mostly farmer owned machines although the contractors have mostly moved on to bigger (not necessarily better) machines such as the Lexions and modern New Holland machines with one or two on tracks also. Yes it was a bit soft underfoot, I made sure I had spare footwear with me but thankfully nothing got bogged down! I can imagine some of the crop did go into the grain dryer but the MF 7718S baling seemed to be managing to bale with no problem at all! As you say Fraser you take your chances and grab them with both hands especially this summer where the weather has been very catchy indeed! I was pleased to catch them too, unbelievably only 30 years ago these TXs were the new technology and who would have predicted back then that there would have been machines with 40ft headers, gps and the option of tracks or huge wheels! Also thats a very interesting point comparing the amount of grain loss of today’s machines against those a few decades younger! Yes a good week for me Fraser, the weekend off though I’ll probably have the housework to do tomorrow while the boss is at work though I’m working this bank holiday Monday which isn’t so much of a chore and the extra money will come in handy for our holiday in mid September. Good evening David, thankyou for your lovely reply and I would like to think Basil is still around brushing his way to infinity and beyond! 🚜 😂 I cannot believe this wonderful day, after watching your brilliant video I visited my father-in-law and he told me that a combine was working in the next field and he could see the dust ball rising above the hedge, so, I had to see and off I went and leaning on an old fence post I watched these hard working chaps doing exactly what you were doing, I couldn't see what type of machines they were using as all the dust masked them well but I bet you would know just by the sound. Yellow is all I can tell you about the combine. All the best to you sir, from Warwickshire.

I would like to think Basil is still going strong too, being a MF I can well imagine he is! I often wonder whatever happened to the little Massey 35X that my uncle owned and I learned to drive on many moons ago (about 50 years ago now), I’ve such fond memories of it and can picture myself sitting on that old tin seat with a cushion made from a bag stuffed with straw as the only comfort, hopefully it’s still going strong somewhere? Good afternoon David on this fine day. Now that was a sweet haymaking video, with that excellent MF 3070 looking right at home. It sure was packing what looked like a pretty heavy crop judging by the full pick up reel and number of strokes to a bale from that equally excellent MF 244 baler. Would be interesting to see this same footage in black & white to give it an even more aged look. The only slight give away of age was a little bit of rust on the front weights, otherwise a quick wash and you could take her to a tractor show. I have only ever operated a Merlo once (Cant remember the model but was construction spec) and found it a very good piece of kit. Never had the pleasure of operating a JCB Fastrac but that 2140 also looked very tidy too. Watching the baler and the stour coming from the nice dry crop, reminded me of being on a diamond sledge stacking bales and not being able to see for dust and also doing my best to stay on the thing especially when the tractor would lurch on a gear change, but hey, those were the days. Hope you have had a good week David and thanks for the video. Cheers, Fraser.

@@frasermathers2287 And a good afternoon to you too Fraser from a sunny Cumbria (although you couldn’t say that about it yesterday!) Oh that MF 3070 is a beauty, still very stylish after all these years. I remember a farmer friend bought a brand new 2wd MF 3060 in about 1990 (god I was still in my 20s then!) and I thought now that is a smart tractor and I still admire the styling on the 3000 series today which in my opinion was way ahead of its time. Yes a dry, heavy crop but the MF 244 baler coped well and didn’t miss a beat ! Umm, black & white, you’ve given me an idea there (you’ll probably be after commission now for coming up with the idea 🤣🤣), I sometimes convert my still photos to b&w and it gives them a nice effect and as you say that very slight surface rust on the weights lets you know the 3070 is over 30 years old but that might win it top prize in the originality section! I’ve neither operated a Merlo telehandler or a Fastrac (we have a JCB Loadall and Volvo loading shovels at work) but they seem very good machines as their popularity proves. It was a very dry and dusty crop, I can imagine the dust sticking to a sweaty Fraser too back in the day but that day was perfect hay making weather, I was very busy running around everywhere and have one more video from the day that hopefully you’ll enjoy to post. It’s been a busy week at work Fraser, 60 hours by the end of today with my one Saturday of the month half shift tomorrow so I’ll be ready for a rest over the rest of the weekend because it’ll soon be Monday again! Both tractors and tedders were working away pretty efficiently and as you say, the MF362 looked in excellent condition, however its pretty obvious that the MF399 has had a slightly harder life (Looks can be deceiving), but never the less, it was also doing a first class job of kicking that hay out and sounded in good fettle for its age. Good evening David from a wet and windy Aberdeenshire. What wonderful sights and sounds on this video from what looks like and certainly sounds like, a wonderful Case Int 1056. She sounds really sweet and I would say at 32, she has not lost any of the horses from under the bonnet, as that full and heavy crop was not pulling her down in any way. As you know I love equipment from across the various eras, but there is something about kit from the late eighties into the nineties that really hits home, which I think was due to the start of a fast pace of development in how capable kit was becoming from the hardships of the 50/60s kit. I can see why you like this location as it looks just like the place I dream of living into old age, but will just put up with the fertile valley of the Howe o' the Mearns and keep dreaming. Thanks as always David. Cheers, Fraser.

@@frasermathers2287 And a good evening to you too Fraser and guess what… it’s wet and windy here in Cumbria too (who’d have guessed it?) Oh the 1056 is a lovely tractor, definitely one of my favourites round this area and as you point out the engine is well on song and that’s down to the owner who is meticulous for servicing his machines, I’ve seen his service record books and they are serviced on the dot without fail! Yes I also love machinery from every era but like you the late 80s/ early 90s is my favourite period and kit was developing at a pace then. It’s a beautiful location Fraser, so peaceful and scenic, kind of like the lakes with no tourists but also no water (obviously) and like you it would be a lovely place to spend your latter years but maybe not in the winter!! I’d stick with the Howe ‘o’ Mearns if I were you (I’m going to have to look that up now as you’ve got me curious!) Thank you as always my friend, hope your weather picks up for the weekend. Cheers, David.

@@davidwinthrop7077My partner and I used to love Cumbria and the Lakes and had many holidays in the area over the years. The Howe o' the Mearns (Which is Scots for The valley of the Mearns), is a very fertile area with some of the highest quality of arable farmland in Scotland and known for its malting barley for the whisky industry, and it's not a bad place to live. The landscape has changed with many hedge rows removed over the decades to suit modern farming, so has lost some of its beauty in my opinion. Thanks David and have a good weekend too. Cheers, Fraser.

@@frasermathers2287 I’ve always loved my home county Fraser especially the countryside. It’s funny that even though the lakes are only an hour or so away from home I don’t visit them often enough but if I do go it tends to be out of season when it’s quieter. I’ve looked up the Howe ‘o’ the Mearns on the website Wikishire and your right it is a very productive arable area, they even grow daffodils! 🌼 The landscape around my area of North Cumbria has never changed (at least in my lifetime) and is as it always has been and although there are some big fields in the area there are still many under 10 acres or less and that to me is the beauty of the Cumbrian landscape and the areas I like to spend a peaceful few hours or capture some nice farm machinery at work. Couldn’t ask for better than that could I? Have a good weekend yourself Fraser, the sun has popped out here so hopefully it has with you too. Cheers, David.

Thats a rare one. As a retired agricultural engineer who worked for a MF dealership between 1974 and 2002, I can honestly say there are not many 825 models about. I only ever recall seeing one before. It was a last gasp model from MF before they bought out the Danish Dronningborg range of 24, 27, 29 and 31 combines in 1985.

@@robertallen3441 I totally agree with you Robert and with you being in the trade all those years you certainly will know a rare machine. I also know of an 855 round here which I have filmed before but never thought I would get the chance to capture an 825. There are still a couple of the Dronningborg machines in the area, a 27 and 31XP so again few and far between but as you say not as rare as a Canadian 825. Great comment Robert, thanks for sharing your experiences. Cheers, David.

@@davidwinthrop7077 Are you sure its Canadian built?, I would have thought it was French built at Marquet. Certainly the 845 hydrostatic was built in France. Probably built in 1984, as the Danish machines were introduced in 1985, although MF had a Dronningborg (overpainted red) as a trial machine in our area in 1984. The Canadian (Brantford) 855 and 865 were a totally different machine, built to a lot stronger standard. As a little extra snippet, in the trade, the XP after the 31 stood for 'extra problems'!!!!!!!

@@robertallen3441 Ah nice one Robert, not heard that one about the XP before. You could be right on the 825 being built in France, I just assumed with the 855/865 being Canadian and similar styling being manufactured over there too but I’m quite happy for you to correct me if I’m wrong. Tx 68 combine 5f rev keverneland Massey 4m 30 drill.. He earns a very nice profit too. Plenty of T.L.C and high maintainance too... Funny he doesn't need a 100k drill...Lol. @@djsimonrossprice9400 That sounds a great fleet Simon! Four JD 50 series, a TX combine and a Matbro, would love to film that one! My mate has 8 tractors on his farm, not a tractor under 25 years old, all minters, serviced every 250 hours and instead of depreciating the value of them has gone up! He buys his implements like round balers, rakes, muck spreaders new but wouldn’t buy a new tractor as he says it’s just like chucking money away. Few videos of his machines on my channel (you can probably guess them by the condition) if you fancy a look? Cheers, David.
