My husband and I used to drive truck together and our Boss is from the Boone area (several generations). He no longer owns the trucking company but has a Christmas tree farm that didn't get damaged. I no longer drive but hubby does and his current employer is in Mtn. City, TN. As much as I've been through Boone, driving and decades ago visiting (I grew up in the Sandhills part of NC) I guess I never realized how MUCH water was on the mountains. I currently reside in Greene County, TN. Half of our county was devastated as well, from the Nolichucky River. Blessed all we had was water out for a week. It just seems like most have forgotten about the damage in E. TN🥹 I've got a small YT channel, mainly for gardening but haven't posted in eons. I've been afraid to go into the damaged areas to possibly do a video to bring attention. Maybe I should look into it. I have friends on Roan mountain who weren't devastated but I know there was a lot of damage up there. Maybe I'll check in with them and can get a tour. Prayers for ALL affected🙏❤️🙏. May our Lord bring you peace beyone all human understanding during this horrid turmoil!!

I live in Chimney rock, NC. I am lucky I had a ton of damage but I am able to fix it all by myself but my poor old neighbors are all poor. I watched my neighbors houses float down the river along with their cows, horses and cars. It was horrifying. Being on top of a mountain I see everything . There is no Fema , there is no local cops or national guard. We have helped our neighbors and they cry when we are able to get them out by cutting down trees from their house or in front of their doors. I am so angry at all of the politicians. But the politicians did get some nice photo opps and then leave in their tax payer funded helicopter.

I live in Hampton tn bout 30 mins from Boone and that day is one of the worst days of my life. I kept getting flood warnings and I was watching the water rise all night but didn't take it seriously and then the water came fast and I grabbed my cat and my dog and ran to the car and videoed the water top the mailbox and I got as far as I cld but water was coming everywhere. So many ppl cldnt get away and stayed in their homes thinking they were going to die that's the worst for me

Lonnie, I thought about Hampton, Elizabethan, Mountain City; I knew those areas were hit hard. I thought the video covered Watauga County rather well; however, maybe Rachel is unaware of the Bethel area and Beaver Dam, etc., in western Watauga.

Thanks for posting, Rachel. Our family lived off the by-pass just up from our church, ABF, for 5 years; my husband was a pharmacist at Walgreens. To see your videos of places I know well was shocking and heart breaking. 2 friends flooded out. My son and I are home bound so this is the only way we can see the level unimaginable devastation. You did a great job of going all around the county, when you could get through. Though my county, Unicoi, was also hard hit, and I'm supporting it through Appalachian Service Project and I'm committed for the next 2 years to support rebuilding through Alliance Bible Fellowship's disaster relief fund . Beside outstanding Samaritan's Purse, people need to know other reliable organizations to which one can donate.

@JanWoods-d3p Thank you. We had minimal flashflooding, some power outages, some trees down because of the high winds, and I only know of one fatality in our neighboring county. A tree fell on a man. We had about 6 inches of deep swift red water running down our street. I could have floated on a tube. It was pretty much gone in about an hour. The kids were out of school because of power outages, but it was restored pretty quickly. My daughter's house got water and had to rip out carpeting/flooring and drywall in those 4 rooms. They had a giant oak that fell on one of their sheds and crushed the trampoline. We faired very well in comparison to so many. My heart just breaks for everyone. Take care. 🙏🫶

Not all damage was caused by rivers, creeks, and streams. Some houses I observed were damaged by high winds, fallen trees on roof tops, and mud slides. One particular house I have driven by in the past was so damaged that I drove by it without seeing it. It was a few days later I saw a debris pile on the side of the road and in the background the tip of what was left of the roof. I appreciate the videos and still photography provided by others so that we can share in the seeing the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Your video popped up after I watched a video from Jaybird Aerial Photography. He's in the Western part of Watauga. It's an honor to subscribe and support locals on YT. Things were really bad all over, especially in the Swannanoa and Asheville areas but it was quite horrific here in Watauga County. The road disappeared behind me at the top of Linville Creek in a landslide. God was with my dog and I. I live in town and was flooded out but I was concerned about a friend so I left to take him water and batteries. Had to spend the night at Skateworld while they patched the road up in Vilas. My G-Grandpaw always talked about the flood of 1916 and my Grandpaw talked about the 1940 flood. Now, it's our turn to talk about the Helene flood of 24. I left for my friends house thinking of poor me, till I witnessed the destruction of others. I felt bad because of that. I had no problem compared to others. I was thankful and grateful for my Blessings! I really appreciate you filming this. People can watch videos and news but they'll never understand. I look forward to watching more of your videos. God Bless you and your family 🙏🇺🇸👍
