Many years ago I had the back cut explained to me as you did in this video. I have been truly confused by the "tutorials' on KZbin until I found this one.

Can you still make head shots at 25yds with those sights? I tried xs big dots which are great at close range. But regardless of all the videos that claim that they're still good at longer range "I did not find that to be the case" at least for me personally.

@2A_lifestyle I shoot good with them out to 20 yards but father for iron sights I think maybe a thin fiber optic front sight would be better. Maybe try Dawson precision!
@2A_lifestyle
@2A_lifestyle 13 күн бұрын
Right on. Thanks for the reply. I know that for personal defense the ability to make longer shots is mostly irrelevant. But I like to shoot further than the average pistol shooter mostly just for fun. Red dots give me the best of both worlds with speed and accuracy beyond what most would consider "handgun range". But I cannot afford to put quality red dots on all my handguns. So I've been on the search for an alternative. And being at an age now where my near vision has gone to sh!t, I can't see regular notch and post sights clearly enough to make good shots at longer distances. I think I will take your suggestion and try some fiber optic sights. I'm hoping that even though I can't see the sights in focus, hopefully I'll still be able to pick up the fiber optics.

@2A_lifestyle I still haven’t made that transition to red dots yet, but I’m sure one day when I get older I’ll def make the switch!
@2A_lifestyle
@2A_lifestyle 13 күн бұрын
I absolutely love red dots. Once you put in the time to make presentation instinctive so that you don't have to search for the dot, everything else is child's play. So fast and accurate without even having to think about it. The downside is that I wouldn't run anything on a self defense or duty pistol unless it was a tough and proven reliable optic. And you can spend more on a quality optic than you do on the firearm in some cases. Which is fine if you only need one or two. But when you have vision limitations and want them on all your guns......................... That's where you run into problems if you're poor like me lol

Where is the lateral movement commonly associated with Arnis / escrima? They are just western fencing using Filipino weapons vs rapier.. Arnis/escrima drew heavily from western fencing.. but not the sport fencing Olympic style linear advance and retreat.. the old fashion western combative fencing.. a lot of angling and circling movements..

@@daxmafesi with the other having a 2-3 feet reach advantage. Have you seen a sword vs spear match? It's the same thing. Reach advantage plays a HUGE part in duels. Heck, even having 2 swords in both hands, you will be hard pressed closing the distance against someone capable with a spear.

Watching this reminds me of a book I read a long time ago called Phule's Company written by Robert Aspirin. There was a competition in it where a fencer fights a guy that knows Escrima. I was studying Arnis de Mano at the time, and thought it was cool, because it was the first time I had seen that art described in a book, and I could tell that the author had some experience with it. Really good read.

I think what you're missing here is the feint to the head. The opponent is not going to use guard of st George unless you feint for the cut (to the head) before delivering the thrust. Thanks for the video. -Slack

If you will set up a fight like this, HEMA will always come up on top because it was designed for dueling. However, irl, you cannot bring a weapon like that to work or school which makes FMA ideal as u can you used everything.
@daxmafesi
@daxmafesi 4 ай бұрын
First off Bolos where used as dueling weapons. In a duel you would have the same weapon so this is just a fun exercise not simulating a duel.
@daxmafesi
@daxmafesi 4 ай бұрын
Secondly… FMA focuses on stick and Bolos. You can’t carry that anywhere. Sure it sometimes covers other things but HEMA has the knife fencing and things like blackjacks, saps etc

Sparring always shows where theory fails to reality. You're both learning more by sparring than you'll ever learn practicing drills & forms. I've practiced Escrima since 97 and Apache knife methods. . .the Apache knife defense methods are exponentially superior to the FMA methods when using any knife ranging from a bowie size blade to anything smaller. The FMA methods are superior only for larger blades such as the kukuri, parang, bolo, machete. Prison and Military knife tactics are superior for surprise ambush attacks. Credentials: 42 years martial artist/combat sports, military airborne-airassault light infantry veteran, penitentiary survivor of a renown gladiator school, bladesmith and survivor of knife assaults and experience in life or death knife fights. A miracle to still be alive.)
