Ah man know how much it stinks to shoot a jake. Wonder if the birds behind you were to close when you realized they were there to turn around?
@TheBaysideLegion
@TheBaysideLegion 3 ай бұрын
Nah, it doesn't stink to shoot a jake. While not the goal, I was amped enough from this hunt to make an error in judgement and it is at no fault of this bird. He was celebrated and appreciated no different than if he had 1 1/2" spurs. No apologies. No excuses. And yes, I had an opportunity to position correctly on the flock behind me. All came down to which birds I thought would get there first. I chose wrong!
@MegaBoogedy

@@TheBaysideLegion it was an exciting hunt. I have had that happen before as well. I now try to turn to a position where I can shoot one in front of me or turn to the left to get one that comes up from behind.

The many opportunities I had of turkeys being in shooting range just on the other side of the property line, I could of shot, but had to do the honest thing and waited for them to cross over onto our property. Honest hunting ethics is key.

I dont understand this " standard " for turkey hunting came from. Its kinda annoying actually. If a person is turkey hunting by the legal means of their state how is that any less of a hunt. Man turkey hunting already hard enough.

May we suggest looking into a book called "The old pro turkey hunter" by Gene Nunnery. It is quite dated, but in today's day and age, now more than ever with the "kill at all costs" mentality, there is a need for a "standard"
