Very impressed with the center piece you created to hold the two cooking eyes of the stove! I'm getting ready to start restoration on my third stove. Can't wait! Oh yeah and there are people who wonder how many pieces it takes to put together a caboose stove haha!

Did you use Ang sealant between layers I’m putting one together
@hunterscreekfarm9566514 күн бұрын
I did not use any sealant between the layers. It didn't appear to have any from when it was originally built so I figured just to keep it the way it is. Seems to work just fine without. Good luck on your build!

I'd think that having spacers between the ends Not being welded would help make sure that the second one would line up. Or have the second one clamped to the tines to make sure they line up.

What wheels did you go with for the angle iron trolley? I cant tell you how many hours Ive spent looking at listings and still not completely sure, I know its supposed to be a U groove though...

would roller wheels, or "horizontal" logs... help the logs roll back off?

Thanks for sharing your restoration. I have the same stove under the Estate brand name. It was a $200 marketplace find after years of looking. I plan to make it into a woodburning rocket stove and filling much of the internal space with sand to retain heat. We are building a replica caboose that will be well insulated so a smaller fire and residual heat should work. Thanks for sharing your restoration.

Sorry for the delay, it's been a crazy fire season already. That is a great idea. I use this trailer for other things as well so I could make it so it's removable and bolt it on when I'm loading logs. Thanks for the suggestion!!

Did this all the time on dirt bike tires, run majority of cuts perpendicular to the direction of travel for best bite and lots of drive/forward momentum edges, then a few cuts parallel to the direction of travel for edges to prevent lateral/sideways slipping. Always used a tire groover, or "knobby knife", but I never thought of the twin cutter. Sounded dangerous at first but looks like you had good control. I just put wheel spacers and RV antifreeze tire ballast, and ran chains last winter, but wondering if I can get thru Montana winter by grooving and not putting the chains on. We will see! Good video, thanks for making it, subscribed.

I have noticed that when you weld you do a lot of pulling, however if you were to push as to pull you will get a better & stronger result.

Thank you for the input. I struggle with push welding for some reason. But I will definitely try to do more and get better at it. Have a great day.

I just received damn near the same stove for free. A guy was throwing it away and I rescued it from the scrap yard. I don't know if you know this, but they also have 3" Legs on the bottom. The legs resemble the kind that come on a porcelain bathtub. Thank you for your video. I learned a ton and i'm now going to restore mine. The only thing mine is missing is the ashbox, plate handle & the 5/8 rods on the side. I'm going to use a railroad spike as the plate handle and fabricate a spring on the back. Thank you again for your video
@hunterscreekfarm9566510 ай бұрын
That is fantastic! Glad you were able to save it from going to scrap. I hate to see good things thrown away. I did not know about the legs. That would put the cooktop at a more comfortable height for me. I will definitely look into it. Glad you enjoyed the video. Send some pictures of your stove when you restore it. Have a great day.

the metal looks a bit flimsy for a decent size log
@hunterscreekfarm9566510 ай бұрын
So far it has handled about a 24" pine. My saw only cuts up to 30" so I'm not moving huge logs. It was leftover used steel I had on hand from building my sawmill trailer so I made it work. Square tubing would have been my choice if I was buying material to build it. But so far so good.

Hi Jeff. The straight down jacks have been working well so far. If I do more mobile milling offsite on uneven terrain I thought about adding extensions to them for a little bit more stability.

Nice job! Note at 4:45 if you want to straighten a warped length of steel, heat a pie shaped wedge on the side that needs to be shorter to a red hot and let cool. Do as meany times and locations as needed because this will tend to straighten it.

On my off-road rig/crawler I run my tires backwards for more bite, I think your tractor would definitely benefit from swapping the tires from one side to the other.

Why not use a truck bed crane on the side of the trailer?
@hunterscreekfarm95665 Жыл бұрын
Main reason is capacity. Some logs are thousands of pounds. Plus it would put all the weight on one side of the trailer and be harder to remove when not using the trailer for logs.
