One of my favorite roads to drive on. When I moved to the Rangitikei region from Auckland in 2023 i rode my 250cc maxi scooter down during winter and going along the desert road it was pouring with rain and it was damn cold probably -5 maybe even -10 degrees with the wind chill, I got a lot of strange looks from drivers on that trip. Also love exploring some of the side roads.

This must be the Isle of Sodor since, apparently, Thomas the Tank Engine is pulling the train . . . too much trouble to show a picture of the engine, train or map illustrating the route.
Great drive Geoff, through my stomping ground, rain is unusual in this area as it was always known as the sunniest Province in NZ. Now I believe Marlborough has the title. Last time I was home the Whangamoa's was closed because of flooding and road slips & to travel to Nelson we had to take the long way through Top House and come out through Wakefield to get into Nelson, a long day. Always enjoy your video trips and one especially when you went from Christchurch to Akaroa, hubby & I stayed in the old Hotel as at the bottom of the hill into the then Township - I think it was called the D'Urville hotel way back in 1989 a adorable old place.😅so thanks for sharing. Travel safe & cheers

Thank you @geoffmackley for another great vid. We drove that road, just over 3 years ago to the day, but in the opposite direction! Arrived on the ferry from Wellies at 1 a.m. then drove to Nelson, and upon arrival, we had a little snooze in the car until dawn, then after coffee, we checked out the sights of Nelson like regular tourists =)

How the heck would that driver get themself into a pickle like that? I used to work on farms, so I know the precarious nature of gravel roads, but I also know enough to slow down, especially if in unfamiliar territory! Luckily, their car didn't sustain TOO much damage. BTW: love the t-shirt ... just in case others missed it, it says "It's OK! I'm on 500mg of FUKITOL" =)
