Why does this sounds like AI voice is used and why does it sound like its a Good Morning America show? Who is this made for and why? Honest question. Its the most off sounding podcast I've heard in a while. You guys, if it is guys and not binaries, something more humane with this.

Topaz seems to be doing a better job adding in detail(look at the lichen/rocks in the focus rack, and skin/hair texture). It clearly messed with the color grade as well, reducing highlights in a few areas but the detail seems seperate from that.

IDK. IMO, the impression of Topaz being better is more due to the colors being more saturated. But is it crispier? hard for me to tell

Advantages of Resolve SuperScale are that it’s built into the Davinci, its relatively fast, although the latest 2x Enhance is very slow right now, maybe they will optimize it. Resolve SuperScale has the advantage of not changing the colors of the video, while Topaz Video AI sadly is unusable for some projects because it’s not colored managed and actively tries to average colors according to its AI trained dataset. Making sometimes images better looking which is cool, but not when you have made your color grade or have color critical projects. This is where Topaz Video AI in its current form is unusable because it will change color. I asked the developers at Topaz they say they are aware of this and working on it. So maybe in the future. In your examples you can clearly see the color and tone change. Latest Topaz Video AI 3.x offers optimized, speedy rendering and some nice control over the level of detail and noise reduction, etc., but its biggest advantage is removing compression artifacts. If you are restoring compress footage, working with already compressed and processed stock footage, etc. Topaz will clean it up really nicely, same as if you work with cameras that have 8-bit, h264 codecs. Resolve SuperScale works a lot better if the input footage is with no visible compression artifacts, otherwise it will enhance and magnify those as well, while Topaz will actually replace them with new clean details. Bottom line Resolve as you would expect it is more for color managed, color critical, professionally shot, low compression footage. While Topaz is more for casual use and restoration. While Topaz can be used professionally, one needs to be aware of the alterations to the footage. Also there is an option where one uses Topaz too clean up source footage from compression artifacts, etc. And then color grades in Resolve and use SuperScale to upscale clean, color-corrected footage in Resolve. Just my 2 cents. Cheers!

@@jjd4034My pleasure. Cheers! Sadly it does not seem new version of Topaz has addressed the color issues, but some have made claim that its less drastic change in color with latest releases, although I haven't tested it myself... yet.

Could you do a comparison between Resolve's Speed Warp and Topaz Video Enhance AI for slowing down footage to 25-50%? I can't seem to find a video of anyone doing a comparison with the same footage.
@KrunoslavStifter Жыл бұрын
Topaz has several more AI models that in some cases will do a better job than in other cases, usually at the expense of speed. Davinci only has your average model that works well in standard, non-challenging cases, but like some of the Topaz models suffers when it needs to deal with more challenging footage. Overall I prefer Davinci for its ease of use and being part of workflow, but some of the more advance topaz models are a bit better and produce fewer artifacts for challenging shots. But none of them is all powerful, so sooner or later you will run into a situation where they all break down. You can't replace high frame rate coming out of the camera, but you can get away with some stuff if you are careful how and what you shoot and how you post process. Also keep in mind that Topat is frequently updating and tweaking their models, while Davinci does not. This makes resolve more reliable , while Topaz keeps making changes, sometimes its 3 steps forward two steps back and its less reliable, depending on the model and version of topaz software. A bit of a gamble sometimes.

Are you watching the same video? Not only is the exact same video played twice, once with Topaz and then Super Scale, they are then shown together one above the other.

@focuspulling2 жыл бұрын
This is an extremely interesting test. Not inconsistent with your results actually, I think Topaz might have the clear advantage for EXTREMELY worse source material, such as old VHS tapes and DVD rips at 480p or less, going up to HD or 4k. That is what Topaz's extra processing time is designed to crunch through, compared to material that is already "in the ballpark."

You missed his point; he is making a cost/benefit analysis as to Topaz taking 800% longer to render out footage that's nearly identical in the end, when feeding it footage that's already in decent shape, but simply lower-resolution.

Frank, lovely work! I have a Black Magic pocket camera, still figuring out a good project to test it with. It's hard to me to nail focus using the tiny LCD and using lens adapters, so I've ordered a 7" monitor finally. Looking forward to getting out and shooting something with it. I love the color and texture of this footage. It really does look & feel like film emulsion compared to h.264 / 8 bit.
