You’re getting faster on that trail! I know that one spot 30s into the clip, the little riser and curving turn after a straight fast section almost gets me every time. Suckers one into going almost too fast. I’ve pumped water out of the little stream at the bottom on big days, a nice fill up spot if you’re going back up.

Good job! Some wise line choices, some 'interesting' line choices ;-) Were you drunk at times? Ha! Slow is fast in those steep/deep ruts. Enter slow and stay committed and you'll exit faster. You missed a left at 14:56 that would keep you on single vs dumping to that double track. Basically stay left wherever you see an option.

OK, I see that turn off, I can’t say that I’ll hit that next time for sure, but I will definitely look for it, yeah, my Rocky rut riding could definitely use some improvements :-) I got a hand it to those tires for not getting all cut up in those Rocky ruts. Some of those rocks are so sharp looking, definitely wouldn’t take a XC tire down that.

Hey, are you still running the elite wheels pro 36?
@no1cr500racer
@no1cr500racer 4 ай бұрын
Yes I am, and I even have a story about them that happened on this very ride as I was riding out of Hagdor Canyon. So the exit from Tombstone drops off up Hagador Canyon, there are 20 water crossings to go across on the way out of Hagador, most of them are rideable but a couple you have to carry your bike. So this time I am crossing fourth crossing and its a easy one and you can roll across it with moderate speed, Im rolling through and all of a sudden im skidding to a stop and wondering what the heck is going on. Well I look back at the back wheel and there is a 1 1/4 inch piece of wood that stuck all the way through the rim and wedged against the seat stays! I thought I was going to see a broken spoke or two, but nope, rim still looking great and no broken spokes! So I'm really happy with these Elite wheels!

What an awesome trail!! I went down it for the first time Saturday. It’s really well built, nothing really like it. Dirt is deep! I had a fairly clean first run with one or two dabs but unfortunately pulled a glute and also broke a spoke somewhere on the way down. The tombstone drew some more blood that day

Torn between this or the Jeffsey .
@no1cr500racer
@no1cr500racer 8 ай бұрын
That would be a tough choice, for me I already had a enduro bike, my son had a Izzo, he lives in Idaho and the trails he rides are in great condition and the Izzo is more that enough to handle the conditions there. My enduro bike would be overkill for those trails, but where I live (So. Cal) there is a mix of trails, from steep sketchy rutted trails, maintained trails with jumps, and some nice single track, it I had to choose one bike for all my riding, for myself, I would probably pick the Jeffsey, I do like some steep descents here and would appreciate the extra travel and the Jeffsey is a little slacker, there is only a couple pounds difference between the two and I wouldn’t mind the little bit heavier Jeffsey, but that’s just my personal opinion for the area I live and my personal riding style, you really can’t go wrong with either bike, hope that helped :-)

You should be extremely proud Mike. It's an awesome trail and must have taken you all summer starting in the middle of the night. What legacy trail. That tree has been a close call for me on more than one occasion! Hope you can get back at it again soon! It’s been interesting to watch the times drop on Tombstone, thinking I was doing pretty good with a 6:49, and a guy rips a 5:23 ! Amazing!
@dodgechristopher

nope - fractured hip socket. Side swiped that tin mine tree hard enough to push my femur thru my pelvis. I kept shaving off time on Tombstone every pass, trusting the bottom turns more and more: 6:11 - I was nipping at dipping into the 5's. I wouldn't feel too bad about the 5:23 though...Jacob races Pro and is 1/3 our age! Not blowing every turn up top will help you out though 🙂

The wheels are great but the Hub is rubisch. I had theas wheels for mor then a year. The bearings on the rear hub dident com out. And this was the end for the rear wheel. The front wheel have dt Swiss bearings and is still in use. Best you change the Bearings from the beginning in Dt Swiss and alsow the ratchet system to dt swiss. I broke my ratchet system after 300 km and change to Dt Swiss. The Rim and the spoaks are great.

Great insight. This is the kind of stuff that shows up in budget wheels long after most guys do a one-ride impression video. And confirms what you’d expect. The savings have to come from somewhere. I do have a lot of spare DT hub parts so I think I’ll give these wheels a go with the bearing and ratchet upgrade you mention.

It reminds me of Skinsuit but without the ruts, kind of like Tin Mine, I posted another video yesterday of the whole ride down, shot it on a 360 cam, that would give you a better idea of how it is, the end has some steep off camber switchbacks and some soft sections with some rocks in the dirt, then you end up way up Hagador Canyon and ride and hike a bike out of Hagador, I like it, but I have been riding Hagador for years. @@swapmotolive.

I’ve been riding my Kings Peak a lot lately, really love that bike, we have a local trail called Hagador Canyon, it’s a single track ride Ip a canyon, there are multiple water crossings, the amount of water varies on the time of year, sometimes it’s really flowing and sometimes it’s just a trickle, but there is rocky sections , some punchy climbs, and plenty of tight turns, I love the Kings Peak on that type of trail, or just for out exploring:-)
