Lol wow, I jammed everything in and nothing fit, once i turned it on its side and slid my dehydrated meals sideways like that, i had a whole extra layer for more stuff! I was apparently missing some common sense. Appreciate the vid, thanks!!

It is a fun hike. A good personal challenge. The first time topping out at Grubbs Notch you feel like you have really accomplished something. Now I use it as a test to see how much I’ve improved in my speed and endurance. It never disappoints.

@@ejr5480 Not all fun is fun. I've completed the JMT 4x SoBo my fave was a 16 day Solo in 2021 and my last one in 2022, 13 days we had a blast. All 4 were an amazing experience 21 days large group and my 1st in 2019 with a buddy in a high snow year 18 days of pure torture 🤣 . Heavy breathing is a given going over the passes 🫁

By my calculations: - The BV500 is 11.5L volume. - The density of fat is 900g per liter. - The energy density of fat is 9 calories per gram. Thus you can fit 93150 calories, or about 31 days worth of food at 3000 calories a day. Hope this helps 😊

I put half dinner half breakfast on first level and same for second. You have to get all the breakfast out of the way to get to a dinner ? Harder to choose a dinner unless you empty the can.

Most Bear Cannisters are based off the same concept the storage of food and scented items for bear safety regardless of brand, make, model the main difference is the volume sizes & weights. Happy Trails ✌️

I'm not seeing beverages. Also, and please bear with me as I've never used a cannister which is why I'm watching this video, but wouldn't it make more sense to pack one days breakfast lunch and dinner together so you don't have to unpack dig through and repack for each meal? I think I could have packed a bit more in there since I've been making survival kits since I was a kid. Thanks for the upload

Beverages on trail are usually just water, some people do use Mio or similar for flavoring. Beverages usually happen in abundance in town or resupply locations. For a 1-4ish day trip in a BV500 you could package your BL&D together but trying to make 7+ days of food fit can difficult at times I load my canister anyway I can make the most fit. I Hope this helps. Happy Trails 🚶♂️🎒✌️

Amazing views and very informative; I loved it! I’ll like to hike the JMT; I saw you mentioned you did this hie in 2020 with different people, right? Do you create different group of people every year to do the JMT? If so, how can I be considered to be part of you group? I’m looking to do ir, JMT, in 2023; thanks!

2019 I did the trail with one other person, 2020 I did it with 6 others and we met people along the trail who tagged along with our group, In 2021 I did a Solo 16 Day Trip. Id recommend going with 1-3 people you know well and get along with for a great experience. Happy Trails ✌️

Did this trail/hike in July/Aug, 2000. The hardest, yet most gratifying thing I've ever done. Slept outside with no tent every night - had a bear walk over us, as we were sleeping day 2 (near Yosemite, there are a lot of bears because of so many tourists). When you have to walk/hike 15 miles a day, mostly up hill, your feet get destroyed. But once you make it to the top of Mt. Whitney, it's all worth it! Some people claim they "hiked" Mt. Whitney - the opposite side, there is a trail that takes less than a day to do... but it's not the same - in order to fully brag, you have to take the JMT.

Don't pack your canister like this, you have to dig everything out to get to dinners and so on. You should pack it so you can work your way down from the top getting snacks, bfasts and dinners without digging everything else out. After you have eaten 3 or so days worth of food it is easier, but don'e segregate all of your meals types like was done here.
@Love2Sin2 жыл бұрын
When packing this much food into a bear cannister I find this is the best way for me. I can decide what I want to eat day by day. Once a few days of food are gone I organize accordingly 🍽️

Words can't describe how beautiful Mother Nature is. I totally agree with John Muir and the POTUS Theodore Roosevelt. I fall in love with The Yosemite since I started reading the book by both John Muir and The POTUS Theodore Roosevelt. Wish I will get a chance to visit Yosemite before I leave this life forever. I really wish that.

It took me an 30 days. I didn't arrange my resupplies right and went out at Mammoth Bishop and Independence. I also was not eating right, no fat, almost no protein. I was a vegetarian at the time and it took a lot out of me. I also had old and heavy equipment but I made it with the 30 extra miles and a sobbing spell on the side of the trail.
