Thank you for this video. It addresses many of my concerns as a slow long distance runner. Especially the details about running slowly... The video is three years old now. Are you still using the machine regularly? Did you experience any problems or maintenance issues? Did you ever have a chance to compare it to an Assault Runner? I want to buy a curved treadmill and have a hard time deciding between the TrueForm TRAINER and an Assault Runner...

Yes, I still use it, and have had no issues at all. I haven't used an assault runner, so can't comment - one manual tread is plenty for me ;-) I think the only thing that I've come to understand that's new, is that there is a gap between this and doing speedwork on a track. The muscular demands are slightly different.

What a fantastic review! So many Trueform reviews focused on the machine itself, not the running experience and how it would fit into a runner's training. Your focus on intervals has given me different way of thinking about purpose of a home treadmill. It was very interesting how your nagging achilles injury seemed to clear up. Many thanks! Couple of quick questions: 1. How would you compare the impact of deck versus an electric treadmill? More or less impact? I find that sometimes the bounciness of a regular electric treadmill can aggravate my old joints. 2. Can you give an example of the types of interval workouts you are doing on the Trueform? 3. You mentioned that slow runs are possible. Do you ever use it for Zone 2 runs/walks in crummy weather?

Thank you very much! I would say the deck doesn't bounce, although I'd say it's resilient (my weight is about 160 lbs). As for Z2, there's no problem, but realize that if your pace is slow enough (slower than about 11 min/mi on the road), then you may be walking. I am a big fan of Stephen Seiler, and recently I've switched over to using his guidance for intervals, eg. 8x4w/1r plus warm up and cold down. But really, there's no limit to what you can do. Good luck Willy!

@@robertpavlak3570 you sent me down rabbit hole of Polarized Training! I found great article by Seiler's daughter who he apparently trained. If I understand it correctly, they categorize each session as either easy or hard which is bit different from 80/20 that looks more at time in each zone across sessions. An "easy" day should be 100% Z2, meaning no strides, no tempo progression. An avoid Z3 all together. Do I have basic theory right? How do you structure your typical week of easy versus hard days based on Seiler? Why do you prefer it?

@Nordic Willy Yes, you have it right. I like it because it fits well with where I live. Mostly I run trails now, where it's hard to do structured workouts. So doing one hard workout a week (on the treadmill or track), and maybe a race on the weekend matches up well with this type of training distribution. I like also that the workouts are simple (indeed, I find I dont even need to watch my HR, just be aware of my breathing), and the distribution seems more in line with my aging body. Seiler also emphasizes durability. Avoiding injury and trying to get enough recovery are the keys (IMO) to running into old age.

This is exactly what I needed to hear in a review of this. I too was worried that I would have to run fast to use the treadmill, but its good to know that I could do an easy jog or even a walk. Do you find you're running faster now on the road since you've started on this treadmill?
@robertpavlak3570

I don't think so, but I'm getting older, and not slowing down is a good thing ;-) It has made it easy for me to do interval workouts, which weren't convenient for me before.

Great review. Can I ask if you get that refreshed runner high that you get after an outside run with this treadmill? Do you feel that you really went for a run? And would you suggest 30 mins is tops for running?
@robertpavlak3570

Yes, but I do enjoy being outside and in the fresh air. That is missing of course. As for 30 minutes being tops - it depends on you :-)

Many thanks for covering this. I assume it is the same concept as assault air runner or true form is a bit different.

Could you train fore a Marathon on this curved treadmill?
@robertpavlak3570
@robertpavlak3570 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It will be monotonous, but that's true of other treadmills. If you're doing phased workouts as part of your training, it is well suited to that, but you best use a good watch that supports that type of workout.
