In all his films, Villeneuve makes us explore the deep moral dilemmas of the human spirit which are caused by the unexpected force of our unconscious and which plunge us into a gray zone where good and evil are no longer part of the horizon .

Anthony Hopkins only appeared in 17 minutes of Silence of the Lambs and he won the Best Actor award. I don't think Lily Gladstone's 56 minutes (33%) is not disqualifying for her nomination as best actress.

I was struck by the authenticity of the costumes and surroundings. That movie looked like 1943 even though the cinematography was 21st century crisp and clean.

Top guy should set his mic to the cardioid (3rd setting on the bottom) and move the mic so he’s talking into the front of it. It’ll give better sound quality, you aren’t meant to talk into the top of it.

There is a plot. I would describe the plot of this film as ' A husband and wife are determined to live their best life, even at the cost of losing their humanity. " Because throughout the film, both characters are constantly tested in different ways, and both experience their own crisis of conscience. . Neither character is driven by hate, or behaves this way because they're evil. Rudolf is bound by duty and Hedwig is motivated by greed. As we watch the film, we recognize how both of these things are what eventually begin tearing them apart and separating them. By the end of the film, neither character is the same as they were at the begiining.
@featurefanaticspod8 ай бұрын
Very interesting take! They very much are driven by bigotry and hate and their behavior is enabled by evil, but perhaps you mean their actions that WE see.

“No plot” “no story”. That’s the point. If it felt like a story like Schindlers List then it wouldn’t be an experience. The film is meant to be a sensory experience only. Not a story. The Nazis were ordinary people like you and me. Seeing them in ordinary situations trying on coats, sharing woes, washing, eating, gossiping, walking makes us connect to the true horror. The true horror is they were not fictitious “monsters” they were ordinary people.

My grandfather who was a Russian Orthodox priest was taken from his home in Warsaw, Poland and sent to Auschwitz where he perished. Please, acknowledge that many non-Jews where brutally murdered there, too. We are seeing so much anti-LGBTQ, anti-Muslimism, and other racial profiling going on today, and I am scared that "Auschwitz" can happen here, today, in the USA.
@Existentialnausea9 ай бұрын
You've got that backwards. Nobody is anti LGBTQ. What they are, is anti making children part of shit like gay pride events where people are walking around with hard-ons, stripping for children & having public sex. And please don't say it doesn't happen, because I've seen it. And you cannot compare them to these events. And by the way, gays are murdered in muslim countries. If they're gonna be killed anywhere, it's there. Do some research for the love of GOD.
