Pretty rough, but the gags are really well worked out and build into one another extremely well. Disney was already the best story man in animation.

It got worse in Epic Mickey where he is resentful of Mickey Mouse’s popularity. Luckily, he gets better.

Its probable that most of the scenes where things move in perspective were drawn by Hugh Harman, who specialized in that kind of animation. This cartoon was directed by Walt Disney himself. He directed his studios’s Silent Era output up until the very early 1930s, when Ub Iwerks started directing as well as animating.

Universal was the distributor but they didn't have their own animation studio. That's where Walt Disney and his studio came in. Same deal with Walter Lantz he had the animation studio, not Universal. Universal never owned the animation studio til years after Lantz closed it and sold the filmography to them. Another example was Warner Bros during the Harman Ising and Schesinger eras. Warner only distributed those shorts but until Schesinger sold the studio to them, they never owned the animation studio prior to the deal. Plus Harman and Ising were independent at the time.

Assuming the short itself is still under copyright then like a certain mouse in January every one of the remaining original Disney Oswald shorts since this one was released in 1928, would also enter public domain. Plus the first batch of the post Disney Oswald shorts.

This brings me back to 2001-2003 when I was part of online wax cylinder/Victrola communities, at the time this was the oldest playable recording. We had debates on what was being said, I knew Lambert called out "one o'clock", "two o'clock", and "three o'clock" but the audio at the end was the subject of much debate. Some thought it was Jingle Bells reversed. I (wrongly) guessed he was being silly because it was an experiment, others (correctly) figured out it was supposed to be an alarm.

I've never heard of a cylinder being recorded at such low rpm, most commercial ones of the era were 90rpm, I guess that's how they fit 4 minutes on one record.
