Its better to teach people to swim back on waves. Its more efficient way to get back, its easy to remember, and it avoids rip currents

I don’t recommend actually riding the rip currents all the way to the back because that’s sharks edge.

I taught over 12 kids how to get out of rip currents it’s you have to pick a direction to swim parallel to the shore and swim away from the rip current once your free from the under layer of a carpet currents on your legs is when your legs are in calmer waters and then your safe to swim back to the shore.

In some situations a rip current can finish in a whirpool....in that case is strenuous to scape. One of my friends was drag to one, and he had to swim under water in order to scape before suck into the whirpool

What is a safe depth to be in where a rip current would not be strong enough to carry an adult out off shore? Like 1-2 feet?

I went to VB couple weeks ago, first time at an ocean beach. I'm not a good swimmer so I stayed at chest height waters. I was kneeling in 2 feet deep water when a big wave came in. I jumped to get over it but as the wave passed, I realized I've been swept away from the shore where my toes barely touch the ground and water is at my nose level. I panicked a bit, going in and out of the water for a few seconds until another wave came and pushed me into shallower waters. All of it happened under 30 seconds.

My theory, Earth is rocking on its axis. It tilts north and south. Has to stop and change direction. Li,e a waiter loaded with plates of soup. Gets stopped suddenly, soup keeps going, then with sea it has to get undr wwY in an opposite direction. Riptides are occurring In many reports. Sea retreating from beach, not in tides times. Crowded beach getting overcome by an incomings sudden wave. Nor Tsunami, just Earth on the rock. Balance of Earth is not true, like a top, it has to wobble to counter out of balance.

You could have saved many lives from educating people about this. I heard that you are 1,000 times more likely to drown then be bitten by a shark while swimming in the ocean

Does it help if u wear a life vest? It seems it’d be harder to get pulled under with one on. But then again, who wears a life vest just swimming around in the water😢😮😢

i'm pretty sure i got caught in a rip when i was about nine or ten, and i think i just accepted that i was going to die, so it threw me around a little, and then i was able to break the surface. i cried back on shore, but nobody even realized what had happened ☠

Its not cool for a giant adult man to wear floatys, but no one looks at you too weird when you always swim with a pool noodle. I started swimming with one whenever i was alone, its not a life jacket but any sort of floatation device is better than none if you need it.

A Rip Current swept me away, at that moment of fear because I swam and did not advance and it occurred to me at that moment to swim to the right side because I saw some people in front of me many meters away so they were MY FOCUS and I swam towards them, I was going to yell for help, but grief gave me the strength to reach them and then I went on and stood up, but I couldn't breathe well from exhaustion. Do not swim against the current, swim in the direction of other people, because they can help you in case you cannot follow. July-17-2022.
