Retired A&P here. Yes what you found would be logical after it going over on its back. The vertical stab would take all that force and maybe take it out of square. You do the job RIGHT! Great work

A labor of love… I love flying Cessna airplanes. One day I will fly a 180! I learned in a Cherokee 180, but have always loved Skyhawks since transitioning.

Great vid. I was going to put a new taller panel in that 185 I had you look at, but realized the v brace probably won’t fit if I do that because the glare shield is taller. Gues I will have to make another v brace! Thanks for the scantlings on the tubing etc.

Are all 180 gear compatible with 170s? For that matter are all early 182 spring gear compatible with early 172 spring gear models? Great vid! And yes that 170 definitely looks badass!

That's really cool. A buddy of mine did something similar to a 1950's 182. He had problems with trying to cool that bigger engine inside the small cowling. Also...he wished he had larger fuel tanks due to the increased fuel flow. Still....it really must perform like a monster!

Hey John... Thank you for the great content, I worked at Lake Union Air service as a ramper and remember meeting you a couple of times back then (correct me if I am wrong that you worked there as well). I miss GA and I find your videos about restoration and keeping these great old airplanes running fascinating. Thanks again.

I did this windshield install a few months ago. I also installed the top metal piece first. I had to drill it our and then cleco it in to hold the top and the strip to fit it. There is no way to get the top of the windshield in with it riveted first.

Balsa takes them dings . ive built model s (condors types) and with a thick finish over asphalt all the scrapes and dings barely beat on it and easily smoothed over if its dinged plus it stops crush. I like your work perfect fab and not patchy

Let me ask you your thoughts on modding a 172 or 150 type with sail type and span for a motorglider????? I luv homebuilts tho.
@markplain2555
@markplain2555 2 жыл бұрын
I remember a video by Sonex (some years back) that discusses the idea of extending the wings on a plane. In essence you have to extend the tail too. With longer wings (on a 172) you get more Yaw - to make up for the Yaw you need a longer plane/ tail section. I personally would stay away from those kinds of mods unless I had studied aerodynamics. Remember if the plane goes into an uncontrolled spin - you die.

Its been too long for me. Thinking I need another ship. I'm near Crescent City and glad to see some good soaring in the region. RV living and retired, so relocating is easy. Minden / Truckee were my old stomping grounds.
