behind the beat is so fucking difficult!

Best example I found. In this case the least 'talk' and more 'do' helps viewers understand the best.

i started to conceptualize playing behind the beat in swing like: the "and" note stays fixed, but the quarter note shifts a bit to the "right" or later, so the effect is that the 8th note stream is strateneitned out. i think i heard it from adam rogers guitar player. you can even put this on a sextuplet grid to practice it in an exhagerated way at a slow tempo: |X...x.X...x.X...x.X...x.| becomes |.X..x..X..x..X..x..X..x.|

If the drummer is the beat, then does this mean Jimmy Page was always rushing?

Looks like the ride is what is being moved here, but i was told in other styles (besides jazz) its the snare. Is the bass or hh ever moved in other styles?
@Bill-vy3fx11 ай бұрын
Is it just the ride changing or does the HH change too? And, If the snare wasn't so syncopated & lets say it was landing on 2&4 would that be affected too? In short, does everything change or just the ride?

Terrific flowingv interview...its more like a chat and jazz hang..They've obviously got a lot of respect for each other..I was present that day on Cork with the drum off with Dessie Reynolds.. and after I remember helping Kenny with his drums.. A nice man through and through. Thanks for posting.

Aged 15/16 my jazz mad dad paid for me to go to a 2 day master class with Kenny. I could not keep up with the challenge, but Kenny's playing was fantastic and he was great fun.

I prefer Ta De Ki Da Tum instead of counting! It's much easier to say, especially in fast tempo. Check it out.

I’ve never had (or even really seeked) any formal music knowledge and I’ve only played in punk and metal acts ever - playing simplistic guitar. This just blew my mind wide open. Incredible work and you’ve inspired me to practice my ass off and learn. Thank you
