A year on from this video, I see a lot of vets holding on, but reaching their absolute limit. There's just nothing left to do for a lot of people, even hardcore fans.

My biggest gripe with NGS is the... serious story downgrade. Oracle was a pretty good space opera, but... NGS' story is kinda lackluster.

Honestly, I just want PSO2/New Genesis to die at this point. I would like to see them go back to the PSO roots with a PSO 3. Return us back to Ragol. Back to where it all started. With that old art style before it went all anime BS. The original PSO still beats both 2 and New Genesis imo, which is seriously sad.

I lost interest of playing this game again thanks to NGS being a thing, Sega just killed off the Base/ Original game just to milk this game... "PSO3" Had so many great times playing the original game back in 2020 when it was released globally but ever since this new one was announced back in 2021, I'd had bad faith in the game going forward. I only comeback to this game when Sega decides to support the original game and bring back all the features.

Good vid, not my type of game to play but it looks pretty at least. These kinds of games just feel soooo damn lazy. They have plenty of money to make a genuinely good and creative game that changes up things in a good way but for some reason, most of the modern jrpgs feel the exact same. And of course, in typical jrpg fashion, money hungry shit to take as much money as they can instead of actually making an engaging game

Actually pick this up recently just to check it out. I got to level 20 in a couple days. And I was looking into the whole elemental attack types I come to realize that it's impossible to level up your techniques. I played a techer/focus because that's the kind of player I am. So basically the only thing that affects element is the element on your weapon. It's a three-button rinse-and-repeat slugfest. I was extremely disappointed when I realized the class that's labeled as support doesn't have any support skills. And then the focus class which is essentially a mage has no avenue to upgrade the techniques and they're all stuck at level one. All the classes play the same. After my inventory became full I went to go sell my stuff only to realize that unless you're a premium player you can't even use the auction house. Like what the fuck? Sad, because the game did have a lot of potential.

i am convinced the game is still in early development stages, but being released in a way that is "playable". Im guessing there will be a ff14 realm reborn treatment, where when they actually finish the game they will wipe everything and we will then actually play the game. that being said, its a far shot from PSO2. Blue protocol game system is essentially the same as pso2. I cant wait to play pso2 again, by playing blue protocol

This might not entirely be relevant but the combat footage you showed of Base PSO2 during the latter half of the video is ends up being one of the best arguments against the changes they made in NGS. Almost makes me want to go play the base game again.

I've played every PSO game for thousands of hours. I played PSO2 JP for a very long time, and then still restarted fresh on PSO2 NA and played that for a very long time too. PSO1 is full of great memories too. I've played NGS for a tiny fraction of that. I've tried multiple times to get into the game, but it's just not fun. It's extremely watered down and the gameplay loop is boring. There are no innovative mechanics. The grinding is boring and the combat always feels the same on every class (parry to counter everything). I thought I would really like NGS because the open world and everything looked like it was very exciting, but they bungled it and still, after all this time, have not managed to fix things or add new things that are fun. It makes me sad they did this to PSO.

I was let down by this game within it's first week and it never improved for me. I played PSO2 since it's crusty beta in 2011. Back when you had to manually import the translation patch into your folder each update. Back when they said the game would be released globally in 2012. It had it's lows but, the lows in base are NGS's highs. Some of this would be forgivable if this wasn't a tacked on parasite to the original with TEN *years* of precedent. And if the merger wasn't a pain in the ass endeavor of breaking features and fan patches only to leave the original game on life support. I'm of the mindset that the switch to open world was 100% not the move. It has potential in a perfect world, but if they haven't at least *shown* promising use of these big, empty, sterile, boring areas, they aren't going to. We are back to circling Aelio 2 years later to kill the same enemies to get the same event points for the same capsules. I'm so beyond tired of bloated open worlds that promise "adventure" and then give you the most padded, time wasting, nothing experience. But you can build houses now. So on top of the game being a Barbie dress up sim with limp JRPG elements sprinkled on, now you got the playhouse to complete the package. Terrific.

My issues with the game is end game setup requires way too much of your time just to be a small percentage stronger than the average build and Arts and Techs are only level 1? when will we get level 2 or the Ratechs? I do like NGS but most things in the game is not worth your time. Honestly the original PSO Episode 1 & 2 is way better than NGS v2.

I found PSO2 during a long and cold Covid lockdown. It was an amazing game and NGS was my most anticipated game for 21. I’ve tried so many times to get into it but it’s so awful. Dead and with sad afk lobby grinders. I’m a lifelong Sega fan but I’ll never forgive them for taking away I something I really loved.

I loved Phantasy Star 4 as a kid, replaying it as an adult I honestly hold it in regard above SNES titans like Chrono Trigger. I never got to play Pso1, but when Pso2 was coming to NA (2013? 2014?) and I really was getting into MMOs, I went nuts. I was so excited. And then.... nothing. Silence. It wasn't for YEARS until the announcement of NGS that we got base Pso2 in the west. I will never forget the friends I made, the way summoner incorporated monster raising game elements. I did research and practiced hard, getting my ass kicked by Masq and VR quests. People would always say Summoner was bad in the lobby, but my friends would tell them to just watch. People were blown away by the numbers I was pulling with Synchro/Vulcan and tricks like pulling out Aero when bosses were downed. While I'm sure optimized hero classes played by someone who knows what they are doing are still better, it felt good to perform as well as I did on a class everyone assumed the worst of. I also will never forget how awful sweetbox farming was.... but that's besides the point. Base Pso2 was one of the greatest MMO experiences I ever had in my life. I think the only competition was release Rift, which was my first MMO. If I am praising it that much, even with nostalgia and the child like wonder of experiencing my first MMO, you know they did something right. I tried to get into NGS not once, not twice, but THREE times. And every time I was left disappointed. I just cannot bring myself to play it. I want to love the franchises, but Sega just doesn't give it the love and care it deserves. I wish it was good, I really do, but it really just seems like they threw random things at the wall to see what sticks. Also still dislike the gatcha, but that was in base pso2 so yeah...

I figured out that this game was a flop before the snow biome even dropped. Haven't logged on since then. I played PSO2 the whole way through and had perfect god tier units and weapons. But NGS was shit right from the start. Kinda sad it hasn't got better, so I have no reason to come back ever. Edit: Also sad to hear that Gwizofthestars is still around ruining the community. That was another reason I left.

As someone who's played PSO2 since Closed Beta and only quit once NGS hit, let me just tell you this - NGS is the result of a slow and steady downward spiral that started very early on in the game's life. The gearing and progression systems have been, to be honest, dogshit. People have gotten used to it, but compare PSO2's progression nonsense with something like FFXIV (which still isn't great, mind you). Progression in FFXIV is clear and understandable, you get gear, number goes up, In PSO2, the idea of getting stronger is hidden behind tons of janky 'crafting' menus, parasitic content (don't accidentally do the wrong content, then you won't get anything) and the needlessly overcomplicated ability affixing system that you need to read several guides to understand. Even if you are on top of the gear treadmill, you only get stronger in very large increments (new weapon, new unit set) which means that Sega has to space out any potential upgrades with massive grind that they simply don't have the content for - otherwise the people who do nothing but play the game 24/7 will finish the grind too fast and start complaining. FFXIV spaces out minor upgrades between patches indroducing new dungeons (for casual players to upgrade their gear), high-end raid content (for hardcore players to upgrade their gear) and lower-end raid content (for the numerous mixed middle). Everyone has something to do, no matter how much time they're willing to spend playing the game, and get a reasonable level of reward from it. As for combat, you should look at EP1 gameplay someday. It was pretty slow. Methodical. Almost like Monster Hunter. You had to mind your positioning and your timing, and wasn't just spamming PAs. There was still plenty of moment-to-moment decision making, even with the simpler and slower enemies. Compare with 2:30 in this video, where the next 20 seconds are spent spamming the same PA while standing still. Maybe it wasn't perfect back then, but at least Hunter's Guard weapon action was actually a useful move to have. With time, as more classes got added, the game got faster and faster, and this brought on a focus on counters and the like. In the beginning only Fighters could parry properly, and it was part of a high-skill high-risk high-reward playstyle for those who wanted it. Now the bulk of the player base is expected to do it. Not to mention, they kept adding more and more live service/game as a service bullshit into the game as they went on. Again, this is a simple progression of events. Rare drop tickets, then crafting nonsense, then star gems and gathering... I can't even remember it all. Tons of parasitic content that never gets proper updates but is instead done to try and extract as much playtime and microtransactions from people. Kinda makes me wonder how it would be if the game was properly sub-based, instead of being a f2p game where you're severely limited by not having a sub. I'm rather sad with where the game's gone. I feel like for the last 11 years I've been hearing the exact same complaints from people about PSO2, and somehow the game's still going and those problems are still there but worse. And people are still giving them money for it. I guess none of the above matters when you can idle in the lobby with that new dance you 'won' from the gacha wearing your huge boobs accessory and a skimpy dress until the next Emergency Quest/Urgent Quest pops up.

Honestly, as soon as I heard that the new genesis was replacing the old game entirely, I just didn't want to continue playing, especially since I was a ranger that liked using the cannons and assault rifles. But once they removed the perfect attack timing that's been in the phantasy star games for who knows how long now, I just dropped the game like a rock. Making my CAST waifu look nice wasn't worth the pain it took to get that stuff, normally.

After I heard about who the director was for NGS, I kind of lost hope. More so when after a year at launch, it's still somewhat barren. SEGA should've done what they could to get annother director or try to grab that director who did PSO2 episode 6. The current one was running the base PSO2 game to the ground until the episode 6 director took over. why SEGA put that director who ran the base PSO2 to the ground before baffles me.
