you can add the freeform to a complex shape if it is a compound shape instead of a group. This makes it easier to apply complex points and blends. any set of shapes can be a compound shape even without holes or cutouts. I use it as an alternative to grouping.

I thought it was convention that salt shakers had one hole while pepper shakers had more than one hole. But the internet tells me this might only be a convention in the UK? Anyway, I loved being able to see some of the trial and error during creation. So many tutorial videos give you the impression the design sprang out perfectly from the head of Zeus with no experimentation or flaws!

I *loved* this walkthrough. Having picked up Affinity products pretty recently, seeing the step-by-step of a non-trivial project is incredibly valuable. Have you considered doing a stream doing something from scratch? It would be fun and instructive to see all the mistakes during the creation process (and if you're anything like me, there's no shortage of those, lol) (edit: realized this was a dumb question to ask before checking your back catalogue 😬)
