What would you recommend to fix or change in this work? For example, regarding the story or the camera and character work.

Why do you use both UE and Maya for previs?
@LandofAnimation16 күн бұрын
Because UE is not convenient for animation yet. And Maya is not able to provide a fast and great render yet. That’s why I have to combine them.

Unreal Engine and Maya allow you to create previs including lighting. Actually Blender works well too.

Hello i have a question.. when using grease pencil how do you snap the canvas to each frame especially when i draw from VIEW MODE... everytime i to this the cavas is way offset somewhere in 3d space and bot on the object of the frame i select.... im havjng a problem after i draw on each frame and when i come back to ad color i cant because my drawing isnt on a canvas andnthe fill os way out in 3d space and not directly under my drawing..

Great video, thank you for sharing! One question: at 48:00, when you did raise the entire canvas, I didn't get how did you do that, can you explain? Sometimes I get lost when doing this kind of things because the auto-keying makes me confused.

These are AMAZING! I love how grease pencil works so well for live action on top of animation! As an aspiring storyboard artist myself, I was wondering, when you are working on a fight scene for such a action intensive film, how closely are you working with director Chad Stahelski as well as other stunt coordinators? Do they give you creative control? Are you able to board out your own interpretation from the script? I know the director has a background in stunts, so I'm wondering what kind of feedback he gives when looking at your boards. Do you build out a rough layout based on what the production designers want?Also, do you see the industry adopting grease pencil as a more common way to storyboard now? I would really appreciate hearing what you have to say about this. I am very interested in the industry and cinematic preproduction pipeline. Thank you!

Love this. Thanks for sharing. Always enlightening to see the behind the scenes work. As I've said before, I am getting into previz and finding resources on it is pretty tough and/or expensive haha. Since this 3D animatic/previs is like storyboarding, was it basically no timing/splining, just key poses and key framing? In regards to your workflow, is it pretty linear or do you work on shots that you think are cool or easiest first and then fill in the rest? Could you briefly describe the layout pass? Do you make a new file per each shot in the sequencer and the layout team works from that? Sorry for all the questions! I'm just very intrigued.
@LandofAnimation Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Appreciate your feedback. I did the key poses originally in 3D and did the first timing estimate right away in Maya. In later stages, I refined the timings in editing. Regarding coming up with the scene, in this case I went step by step sequentially. When coming up with a scene, I was kind of watching how the character would behave next. The 3D space is very helpful for that. It stimulates the imagination. And the environment kind of tells the character what he could do in this or that situation. Regarding Layout - since in this case my primary task was to find the story and choreography of the movement, I knew that at the next stages my team and I would be separately assembling the Layout. I did the whole scene in the sequencer and then the Layout department could use my files in their work. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask them. I will be happy to answer them. Cheers Stan

I love blender for its variety of its options. I think it also has great potential for being a great Previz tool like Maya. I just wish they had a camera sequencer like Maya. Not the VSE. Would be AMAZING. I wish I knew how to code so I could just make my own haha
@LandofAnimation Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd love to have some sort of camera sequencer in Blender too. Right now for me Maya is the best tool for Previz. And I think the animation library could be more user friendly in Blender than it is now. I don't understand why they didn't make it so you can save a new pose directly in the library file? But Blender has such a great tool like Grease Pencil, which is superior to the same tool in Maya. By the way, I am also working on a previz project right now and when I have some free time I am going to make a video with previz tips. Do you think people would be interested to see something like that?
@Shka_maru Жыл бұрын
@@LandofAnimation Oh hell yeah. At least I know I will. I've been getting into previz lately. Unfortunate there arent that many (free) resources online. iAnimate has a good one. And I only found one other online 3d animation school that teaches previz. I think it would be a great help to have more previz artists explain their process which will help other get into that side of the production pipeline. Especially since I'm sure most people have their own way. I love storyboards. But I'm hearing, at least for live action, previs is becoming the go-to method. Same way we went from pencil, pen, and paper boards to Toon Boom. Changing with the times. I look forward to your previz oriented content!

Thanks! In my opinion, Blender is great for storyboarding, only sometimes it's a bit difficult to move from one function to another. I hope it will become more user friendly someday, as apps tend to be.

Was this all blender Grease Pencil? If so, amazing. You did the timing in blender too?
@LandofAnimation Жыл бұрын
Hi! 50/50. Blender and Storyboard Pro. Timing and pace was determined during draft storyboarding at thumbnail stage before. While working in Blender I made shots longer so that I could cut them later on edit stage. Thanks for asking! Cheers
