It reminds me of a North West Clog Morris side called Temporary Measured in Sussex, although they dance flat-footed rather than on the balls of their feet like these ladies. I suppose the pom-poms are instead of hankies.

Why is a cheerleading video labelled as Morris dancing?
@simandabuilds91562 жыл бұрын
cause its not cheerleading, is a modern form of morris dancing (carnival morris), evolved from the boring traditional type.

It’s 2:29 am, and I have no idea how a 30 second TikTok and one comment simply mentioning “Morris Dancing” led me down this rabbit hole but boy oh boy am I glad it did!! This is incredible!! I danced for over 18 years including high school dance line, and this reminds me of our Pom routines with the arm choreo and field show routines with the steps. I’ll tell you right now though, we never had to step that high or for that long OR with that much energy while being so precise AND doing intricate arm movements and formations!! I’m just blown away. Completely blown away. And having watched some other videos too, there’s just something about this troupe and this routine that completely takes the cake. I don’t know what they’re doing now or how to keep up with the troupe / studio by social media or another way, but I send all my love and best wishes to them all! They each have a gift, and they’re about to have a lot of new fans if more people keep hopping over here from TikTok. I’m just in awe. Just amazing! Keep it up y’all! Y’all have a new fan across the pond in Alabama, USA! 🤍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Awful music, the move is boring.
@kimmybeck833 жыл бұрын
Hi Norman, thanks for the comment. If you’re not familiar with this type of dancing I’m not sure how you landed on our video? If you think this ‘move’ is boring I’d advise against watching the other videos to avoid further disappointment. Nonetheless, if you really would like to stick it out, please do let us know your preferred genre of music, and we’ll try harder to please you next time… :-)

Ah. Not an academy that teaches Morris dancing then.
@moiraruff329211 ай бұрын
Its origins are linked to north-west morris style, but evolved over time through association with carnivals, popular trends and competitions. It is uniquely associated with the Lancashire region.
@kavikv.d.hexenholtz34743 жыл бұрын
Well done, but this is definitely not Morris (unless it's a uniquely American version). Looks like essentially modified cheerleading routines. I don't know of anyone who dances Morris what would call this 'Morris'.
@kimjarvis73553 жыл бұрын
This looks like the 'Morris' dancing that my friends did in Liverpool in the 90s. It's different from old England Morris dancing, but the same as back in the 90s at least.
@cawewe2 жыл бұрын
it's called 'fluffy morris dancing' it's a sub-genre i guess (i dont know the correct word?)

@@kimjarvis7355 Thats correct - I probably danced against them in the 90's :-/

@@cawewe It's a direct descendant of the North West Morris danced in the late 19th/early 20th century. Michael Heaney's book 'The Ancient English Morris Dance' details how it developed. He calls it the 'modern morris'.

That was superb and took me back to the 60's when my parents used to run groups from Heywood. And sorry about this, but is it just me or does anybody else want to go and take that hooter from that very annoying person, and ram it up there backside. Apart from that it was fantastic. Thanks for the memories.
