Russian assimilation: Finno-Ugric activists ask the Estonian officials to evaluate the activities of the “Fenno-Ugria” Foundation. The Erzya, Moksha and Ingrian movements activists have condemned the passive and silent position of the leadership of the “Fenno-Ugria” Foundation regarding Moscow’s targeted assimilation of the Finno-Ugric nations in Russia and the persecution of national activists. On July 10th, there was an appearance online a video message from the Finno-Ugric nations’ activists located in Ukraine. They addressed the Head of the Riigikogu Mr. Lauri Hussar, the Head of the Riigikogu Culture Committee Mrs. Heljo Pikhof, the Head of the Estonian Cultural Community Mr. Margus Allikmaa, the heads of factions of the Riigikogu, members of parliament and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Estonia. The appeal was also a response to one of the discussion panels held by the “Fenno-Ugria” Foundation. There are the panelists: the Foundation board member Tõnu Seilenthal, ethnologist Aimar Ventsel and historian Jaak Prozes; they all have criticized Finno-Ugric activists from the Free Nations League, accusing them of “marginality” and even “neo-Nazism.” So, the activists who publicly responded to the Foundation included, are: 🔹the Inyazor of the Erzya people, Mr. Syres Boleyan; 🔹the representative of the Moksha diaspora in Ukraine, the Head of the Anatoliy Riabov Finno-Ugric Center (Nizhyn, Ukraine), PhD Donisi Chovhanon; 🔹the veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Mr. Anton Mulkahainen (Inkeri); 🔹the Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman, Mr. Alexander Butyaykin (Erzya). Syres Boleyan stated that the Finno-Ugric nations have long had questions about the most powerful organization in the Finno-Ugric world. According to him, “Fenno-Ugria” has retreated from its mission - to stimulate the development of the culture of related peoples abroad. This Estonian Foundation has long “failed to notice” the destruction of Finno-Ugric culture in Russia. Does nothing to protect the rights of related peoples in the Russian Federation.
