Thank you for your positive comment. We have another kata video taped and ready for editing - will be on the way soon, and a further video on armlocks a bit more dynamic. I am a fan of Filipino martial arts (have visited Dan Inosanto's facility in Los angeles) and was a good friend of the man who introduced Kyokushin Karate to New Zealand. All good arts.

I can see now, after having several times to defend myself on the street, that most Martial arts live a fantasy.

Nicely done indeed! You have good students. If karate do is about the perfection of character through training,…. well no human being is perfect so training will take a lifetime so of course there is always room for improvement. Also true that so far every person that was critical of this presentation does not have a single video of themselves practicing martial arts in their respective KZbin channels. FYI giving words of encouragement is also an option 😉

Absolutely correct, Isaac. This is not my organization but that of a good friend and I become appalled at some of the remarks below and on many other videos of people who are prepared to put themselves out there and train in public. It is so easy for others, who do nothing themselves, to criticize while eating their pizza and drinking their beer.

I assume this a Senior Dan Grading....San and Yondan ? If so, no disrespect in any way. In in a few words, No Spirit, No Kime,etc...Comments based on training at The Infamous Takushoku Diagaku Dojo in '72 for ten weeks and then in '75 for four years.

Karate masters must be honest with themselves and teach karate in the way that students learn how to defent in a real confrontation instead of represent a choreography that everybody knows that do not work .

Martial arts are a representation of the military arts of Japan and elsewhere in centuries past. Hojo -jutsu (the art of restraining a prisoner) is one of the 18 arts the samurai was trained in. You could ask the same question about any part of the martial arts - in Karate why do you punch your students? What is the point of kicking each other? Why bow? Why study swordsmanship if we never carry a sword? Why wear a special uniform? Why do martial arts at all? The answer is that we all like to learn something and in the case of the genuine traditional martial artist we like to fully understand the skills held by the ancient samurai and how they were applied.

they all generally looked strong with their movements apart from the front kicks that had no real snapback but tiredness can cause that. for me, i can't quite see all the bowing being relevant i think the most I've ever done is to the shoman then to shihan then altigan but each club differs I suppose but with regards to the basic 1 step, there is no point blocking if the punch is a foot away from your face you need that element of a need to block. That being said it looks a well-run club.

This isn't so traditional. The praying should be pleasant, meditation should longer, not bad though. Traditional karate in Okinawa is completely different. It's more quiet, more free going. This is like robots doing karate. Well done to them though.

Traditional Shotokan doesn't mean it is from Okinawa. Shotokan isn't even Okinawan. I know because I was born there.

Thanks for the question........this was right on about Christmas from memory. It is a wonderful walk but need to be prepared for adverse weather, because for about 9Km there is nowhere to hide if a storm hits. One couple were killed there shortly after this video was taken, but if you are prepared you will be absolutely fine.
