The low cost (cheap) high frequency, transformerless inverter design that's used in these units can not only damage, your appliances or EV, it can set your appliances or EV on fire. The reason for this is that these units don't have an output transformer to provide galvanic isolation between its DC boost stage and its AC output. So during a catastrophic failure of its H-Bridge circuit, it can pass high amperage DC current straight through to you appliances or onboard EV charger, causing damage. This is why no reputable American inverter manufacturer, uses high frequency, transformerless inverter tech

How does this happen? Are the inverters pushed pass the intended outputs? Where is the information where you learned this? Did it happen to you? There are 1000s of these out there. This is the first time I have heard anything like this. I hope you are incorrect. Please provide links to help us understand.

I see how that is in theory possible, but I know if I were a pretty substantial company like EG4 I would implement something in the design to not allow that to happen. I am going to ask EG4! I have been running their 6500EX inverters for a few years now and have not even heard of a catastrophic failure from the H Bridge circuit.

First of all, there are no American manufacturers. There are American companies, but they farm out the production. Second of all, almost every single AIO manufactured WORLDWIDE uses high frequency transformerless units these days. And finally, list all of the "catastrophic failures" that you reference. Thousands of these types of inverters are sold every year. Tell us about all of the fires, and property destruction you have seen.

@@wdwtx2.0 You're mistaken. Both Magnum Energy and Outback Power inverters are manufactured in the US, using high quality, US made MOSFETs and Caps, which are the components that eventually fail in all inverters. The only reason that most inverter manufacturers use inferior high frequency technology is because it is far cheaper to manufacture and ship a high frequency inverter than a superior low frequency, transformer based inverter that requires an expensive iron core, copper wound output transformer. And to answer your question, the most common catastrophic failure that plagues a low cost, Chinese made, high frequency inverters is a failure where the low cost, knockoff MOSFETs in the H-Bridge circuit short to ground and pass high amperage DC current through to the AC output causing transformers in AC appliances to become saturated and overheat which can cause fires. While I have never personally witnessed appliances on fire due to a high frequency inverter failure, I have heard from hundreds of customers during my 25 year career as an inverter repair tech who have told me that the high frequency inverters that they have sent in for repair have damaged and even set their appliances on fire. Search google for "damage caused by applying DC current to the primary of a transformer" to learn more about this phenomenon. Or better yet, search youtube for "Solar Inverter Catastrophic Failure" by Red Hill Labs for more information concerning inverter caused fires.

@@chrisneibauer EG4 is not a substantial company. They're relative Newbies to the renewable energy industry. They don't do any manufacturing in the US. When it comes to inverters, all they do is import products from China.
