Depends on the type, quality, cleanliness, weight. Alfalfa is the highest price. Prairie will respond to 30 lbs of N per acre just fine. Old world Plains Bluestem can handle 60 # of N per ac. I have applied this amount to customers grass.

I creep feed all the time. It’s called cow calf on pasture. People who follow the “expert” advice will lose money 7 out of every 10 years. I haven’t lost $ in 23 years. Folks, I’m not a brilliant guy. Highly educated, yes, but not in anything related to agriculture. I am so thankful I went in to this too “stupid” to know what doesn’t work, and just did it anyway.

I live in Southern New Mexico. We have gotten less then 3" of rain in the last year. I have 16 cows on a 1,000 acres of desert. This is the 2nd year I have pulled calves at 4 months. I fence line wean them for 45 days, prior to taking to market. I started doing early weaning because the mother cows are the hardest hit during this time. The calves come out great.

You forgot to mention availability. We had a drought a couple years back. If you could even find hay, and because it was being trucked in from other States, it was running $350-450 a bale.

OSU doesn't know shit about ranching and farming in the state how do I know because the land is only 20 dollars an acre on their flipping website. OSU extension is ruining the farming and ranching in Oklahoma. End OSU extension let the farmers farm you rigging sobs

The sad fact is, that our highly mechanized American agriculture with high input costs is not sustainable in the long run, we spend more in input calories than we get out in real consumable calories, cheap fossil fuels lured us into that situation.

Mid America Hay auction last week prices were very weak....rain makes hay, lots of low quality hay around rians every 2-4 days and humid weather has lots of 2nd cutting alfalfa waiting to be cut,......3 weeks late.

Punishment for killing the earth instead of using sustainable agriculture. Our farmers are not supported enough and they need to be trained and aided in healing the land with sustainable agriculture to feed people the right way and help prevent things like…. Dust bowls and pests that come with monocropping.

Yes, you don't measure the moisture correctly. You need to pack the hay before taking a reading. You can use a bucket and hand press the hay in the bucket.
