Amazing. Possibly one of my favourite tracks ever. What a beautiful sound - like a clarinet or a flute. Sounds just like the advent of synth music on TV.

Not quite. Georges Jenny started working on the first prototype in 1939 but it took a few years (and a world war) for him to get it right. The first commercially available ondioline was produced in 1947.

Ive always been fascinated by instruments like the theremin and continuum because they feel so much like the human voice while being simultaneously inhuman. Very atmospheric piece.

I recommend searching for the footage of Rachmoninoff "Vocalise". I think it's underneath the reel of Ligetti's "Lux Aeterna", across the shelf of that old book, "Diverfe Mufical Circuitf of Valvef and Wiref".
