This is excellent ! Very oldschool John Carpenter, and i mean that in the most endearing way possible. It is good in particular to see your Hydrasynth getting some attention , it seems like a good fit on paper for what youre doing, so i always wonder why you arent using it more. It sounds like you are sending everything to tape? I like this effect a great deal, though sometimes your are losing a bit of each sounds' clarity from things saturating a bit too much/ getting swamped in each other's frequency spectrum. Eno's work actually used this consequence of using and abusing tape as part of his process, as he would build his sounds take by take layer by layer with monosynths and tape loops until what was left was a warbly dark saturated wash He then mixed that bit creatively with other washybits he had created earlier.The inadvertent tonal characteristics built up over time from hundreds of bouncing between tapes and mixdowns using 70s home recording tech is a big part of what made his "ambientness" happen
@max_shovАй бұрын
Thank you! Sometimes I use tape but in this one I’m using the Roland SP404mkii ‘s cassette sim it has which I like quite a lot especially for capturing live tape sounds without having to bounce and sync it later. Really cool what you’re saying about Eno, didn’t know he did that.

@@max_shov Eno's early work is a study in how to use low end available technology in entirely unconventional ways to produce amazing results. He even includes diagrams and explanations of his process in the album notes of his early works. Looking at those descriptions /schematics taught me many many things . I have the schematic diagram of his process framed up on the wall of my studio. If you are interested in how Eno created his first few ambient albums, i highly recommend finding the articles "How Brian Eno Created Ambient 1: Music for Airports" on a page called Reverbmachine. Id send you a link, but KZbin doesnt like it when we do that.The same page has an article in the same series on the creation of Eno's Discrete Music , which is also required reading

KZbin is being ridiculous, and deleting my comments for some reason. If youre interested in Enos work, i highly recommend 2 articles on the webpage Reverbmachine that go over his process in detail. One is called How Brian Eno created Discrete Music, and another specifically about Music for Airports

It souns really nice! I also have the Poly D and the hydrasynth deluxe in my home studio, but ive always wanted to get the UB-Xa. How does the keybed and the poly AT compare to the hydrasynth mini keys or the D? (or in case you have tried the hydrasynth full-sized keyboard).
@max_shovАй бұрын
Thank you! The keys feel pretty good.. I almost feel like poly d keys are a bit better but it’s really hard to say. The mini keys feel probably the best but it’s tough to say because of the size. I also have trouble separating the feel of the keys from the other characteristics of the synths like the sound. Those things become really associated in my mind.
