For anyone with a Karate background, this bow & arrow elbow from the clinch is one of the first moves we do in Tekki/Naihanchi kata, which is all based on fighting in the clinch. Thank you for the awesome takedowns that flow from the elbow. My favorite is the knee-tap. Great lesson!

Uĥhh, most people don't just defend with one hand, though. I mean, it seems and mechanically works effectively to break the grip when it's 2 on 1, but I think when the other arm comes into play it would be an issue for this. Then again, you could trap one arm with a hook, plus grip fighting is a fight and no technique is 100%.

Well stay tuned I've got a pretty deep bag of tricks for this position and I'm going to try to show a bunch of them. That said once you have experience with the script break you can create this situation intentionally by provoking actions that cause them to align their hands this way

I sort of disagree about only being limited to the 2 in southpaw along with the other options you provided. In regards to the jab- you can win that lead hand battle with an array of different things one being (high hand wins) when your hand is higher than your opponent’s your opposition now has to punch up hill to get to your face. You can also set a bit of a deceptive rhythm with the lead hand battle. A lot of guys move their lead hands in a synchronized rhythm as they try to establish lead hand dominance, you can take advantage of this buy by going along with that rhythm and then breaking that rhythm by sneaking your jab in-( touch, touch, touch, jab). I agree with what you were saying as far as the different options but it’s also important to know that your jab(lead hand) is still viable . I will be joining your gym soon you seem like a very good coach can’t wait to be apart of the team!

We absolutely agree, check out the other video I did on landing the jab vs a southpaw. Pernell Whitaker was one of the best jabbers ever as a southpaw. The "Rules" I'm laying out are simple guidelines for fighters starting out, but there is endless nuance. Can't wait to see you soon!
