I live in rural Japan and will occasionally nurse my baby in public (for example, at a park in a shaded area with few others around), but primarily I try to locate nursing rooms or family toilets to nurse in. Where we live, these options do exist but it’s nowhere near as prominent as in the bigger cities. Otherwise, if I need to nurse baby on the go, I sit with him in the back of our minivan and do it there! People don’t really mind if you feed while using a cover here, but my baby refuses covers because he’s never actually needed to have one on in his life, so inevitably the breast will be exposed. If we’re somewhere crowded, like a restaurant, I’ll just find a corner booth facing away from other customers to nurse there, and staff are almost always happy to oblige me and don’t mind that I do that. As an aside, many of the women I know here use formula to feed their babies, so between the low birth rate and the fact that there are quite a few formula fed infants, that may have been part of why you didn’t see many moms nursing in public.

These comments are why I don't want to have children in the US. So many judgemental Americans. I will gladly breastfeed on the go in Spain and not feel any shame, as I have seen many women do.❤

Asians culture often believes heavily in social aspects of health. One being that you shouldn't look at other women when they're breastfeeding. They are superstitious (?) in that if someone casts the evil eye at them while breastfeeding, your child may no longer want to breastfeed.

When you have such well done, clean places to breastfeed it would be impolite and frsnkly weird to just ignore all of that to breastfeed in public. In my country we rarely have such places and public breastfeeding isn't normalised either. Idk what society expects mums to do? Nurse in a bathroom?

Here in Mexico it is very common to see mothers nurse in public, specially native women, and honestly for many of us feels just natural, after all it's a mother thing, not sexual at all. But government and conservative people have seen this as scandalous and now are banning nursing in public, much more without a cover. Honestly for me it's ridiculous, i mean something as natural as that shouldn't be taboo. I think lately instead of taking out the taboos y'all are making even more. I've seen my cousins in law breastfeeding no cover right there in front of the whole family and friends, and nobody said anything. Different cultures but respect and tolerance!!!!

In a country where they are hyper vigilant about not wanting people to feel uncomfortable, I'm not surprised. Standing on the left side of escalators, no being on the phone on public transportation. I was even in a hotel where they asked people not to talk while in an elevator with other people in it with you.

How is there anything creepy about a mother feeding her child in a purely normal and natural way? Did you forget human biology? Boobs are not sex organs they actually have a purpose, and that purpose is to feed.

Why would you want to show a boob to the whole world though? Many mom rather have these nursing rooms in public rather than just popping one out
@cheeseobsession4122
@cheeseobsession4122 3 күн бұрын
The problem here is you viewing breastfeeding as someone "wanting to show a boob". You don't choose when your child needs to feed, and it's not particularly enjoyable to carry a wailing child until you find a nursing room. Some moms would prefer the privacy, others prefer the lack of urgency. Having both options is good.

Growing up, the first lady I saw use a cover said she does it because otherwise, the baby gets distracted by the environment, and the cover helped ensure the focus is just on eating. I then learnt that using a cover was a common thing abroad and assumed that was the main reason.

Well it's definitely inconvenient but I think it's better this way. Nobody(besides creeps) wants to see a child sucking on their mother's teets. You could argue and say that it's normal, however, many things are normal. For example, peeing or shittinf. Holding it in is dangerous for your health, but we still don't do that in public. As long as there are accommodations for moms, I think it's better to feed the baby in privacy.
@cheeseobsession4122
@cheeseobsession4122 3 күн бұрын
The only to decide that is the mother. Breastfeeding doesn't leave a mess behind, unlike sh1tting or peeing, so your comparison doesn't make much sense. You can see people pee in urinals in most men's bathrooms. Apply the same logic, you don't want to see it, so you don't look.
@cutefairy297
@cutefairy297 3 күн бұрын
@cheeseobsession4122 You can shit and clean up after yourself and it won't leave a mess. Babies can burp and vomit and it can leave a mess. Going into a urinal implies seeing other people relieve themselves. Going in public and seeing tits is not something people expect to see. Your logic (as well as mine) can be applied to many things. I just don't see a good reason, besides convenience, to normalize public breastfeeding but feel free to convince me otherwise if you want.

In Japan, I did see a couple mom’s nurse in public, but the nurse under her cover not like a blanket but like a nursing cover and it’s true they kind of didn’t do it like sitting at the table, but they would possibly like Nurse on the train you know where you can stand up and have your stroller available to you and they were kind of just like you know Cover themselves and knew what they were doing so of course look away and I looked around to see if anyone would be looking at her and I never saw that happen another time. I did see it at a park but again she had that cover on it could be just very very, very rare to do it in public, but also I do think there is, a thing about giving yourself privacy, which would be then you know using a cover the mothers face wasn’t covered just the babies and And. They were all too to nursing mothers but I do agree. I think nursing could just be more accepted point blank. And I I will say that, one of my biggest pet the restroom nursing room is different. A restroom is a pet peeve because I wouldn’t need a restroom so I wouldn’t expect my baby to eat eat in the restroom. That’s my two cents.

But why would you nurse in public without a cover? Just have your breast out in the open? There is no issue with nursing in public. Just add a blanket over, and it solves the distracted baby aspect as well.

What she means is- as an american woman who feels entitled to whip her boobs out at will, having self control and consideration for those around her was a new and frustrating experience. Poor thing, being able to travel internationally with her children while the majority of us struggle to buy groceries.

I think it's actually like that, but you can't assume that based on 10 days in a country. Like, I know that in my country it's completely fine to breastfeed in public, but It's been years since the last time I noticed a mom feeding her child, maybe it's just that I don't go out in places where the moms go, but I don't see many babies when I'm out.

@cheeseobsession4122 3 күн бұрын
Not only Americans breastfeed in public. It's done in many countries throughout the globe, even more in less developed nations. Nobody's going to hate you for wanting privacy when you feed your child, I want it too, but you're the one that sounds entitled when you demand people to not do x harmless action in public because you have a different standard of modesty. The s3xualization of breasts is very recent, and it's gotten much worse these past decades, but the fault always falls on the pervert, not the mother wanting to feed her child. I agree that a lot of mommy channels are made for fetishists, though. The difference is that they're purposefully doing it for other people to see, while mothers out in the real world are just minding their business when they have to breastfeed out in the open.
