For us fellow pianists this is quite traumatizing.

I am disappointed. When you started winching, I expected the piano to start playing, just like a fair organ.

I had one about that size while in college. Moved into a second floor apartment. My friend who was a lineman (american football) and I picked it up and carried it upstairs. The people around the pool applauded when we got to the top. Someone yelled "you're nuts". Young and dumb.

I've seen someone use the first method, he's pretty strong :) the 2nd would probably be my choice even though it's tedious, the 3rd is hard to do in tight spaces. I remember about 20 years ago or so I was working at a piano store tuning pianos, and I saw someone in his mid / late 50s or so, possibly pushing 60+, without special tools (I've heard some do exist), tip a Steinway D on its side (or set it up, I forget which) all on his own, without anyone else helping.

Sad but true that they have to be scrapped sometimes

Yeah...sorry but that's not how this works. Uprights and grands are totally different in their construction, and physics being the curious thing it is, removing some device or other is *not* going to get any upright to sound like a concert grand. That would only happen if the soundboard and strings were of the same length and dementions as those found in a concert grand, and the construction of the piano was such that this sort of sound was possible.

I do hope that the "cradle" in the third method folds up in some way. It'd take up a ridiculous amount of space otherwise.

I enjoyed the balancing-on-the-knee thing! Try doing any of that with the huge old Bluthner I put new castors on for a customer a few weeks ago; it was as much as I could do to get it to start tilting, on my upright piano tilter (and I'm 6'1"). Actually, putting it back upright was easier (strapped to the tilter of course).

When you dismantle something it implies you can assemble it again. With a sledge hammer in hand you totally destroyed it. Anyone can destroy something without having to watch a video about it.
@MG-re4lw2 ай бұрын
Except for an upright piano which is incredibly difficult to “dismantle”. Also, I don’t think you actually looked up the definition of dismantle.

On the dark Bentley I would voice the hammers with deep needling. Also in this video I think you could explore the bass tones of the pianos and the tenor break region more.
@CharlesLangSamuel4 ай бұрын
I would think, you knowing about the innards, you would have a clearer idea of what the dark Bentley needs. Letoff regulation or capstan height adjustment or what. They all sound pretty good. People in the US are lacking these nice glassy European sounding pianos generally.

Absolutely love that you’re doing this, beautiful. I don’t play piano, so of course I wouldn’t need one. But there are some aspiring musicians with heaps of natural talent, that simply can’t afford a piano teacher, let alone a piano. You could seriously change a less financially fortunate persons life by providing them with one. 💚
