I clicked on the video because I felt conditioned in religion and these thoughts are so relatable.

One way I’m coping is putting myself in situations where I have to be prepared to speak on topics at church. Having mentors who recognize my gifts/where I could be successful keeps me accountable. I can’t hide now even though I still want to sometimes😅 Love your videos!

What does a research lab look like in this field ? I’ve only experienced wet lab and class project research in social psychology but have limited clue on research in Counseling or Clinical psychology

In an age where Medical Insurance dictates what type of treatments "doctors" can even offer to patients, respect for the medical profession has diminished substantively. Moreover, cheating is extremely prevalent in pre-med and medical school. So you are trying to earn ad revenue at KZbin by bonding with others who were also rejected to be trained in a profession that administers overpriced services of questionable value.

My biggest hurdle was getting up the nerve to ask my academic advisor and three other professors if they would provide me letters of recommendation for the Ph.D. program. I was pleasantly surprised that they were all really nice about it and said right away they would be happy to. The University sent me a "Congratulations, You have been accepted" letter, and I am happy, happy, happy. :)

We need a rational paradigm to justify a common objective. That would not provide a target. How to provide that paradigm? *When Africa Awakes* (1920) by Hubert Harrison *Black Man's Burden* (1961) by Mack Reynolds *The Tyranny of Words* (1938) by Stuart Chase The first two are free on the Internet.

If psychology does not acknowledge the anxiety of manufactured expanding inequality on all our minds, the discipline is by neglect, supporting white supremacy... Inequality causes health problems,internally, besides record numbers of mass murder, incarceration and crime...

As a white man, my mind was colonized from birth . Messages from the TV, neighbourhood, grammar school, conversations around me and observing how people treated me, compared to people of cor and females. I never evaluated it then, I thought the world was right, I was special... I have been working to decolonize my mind and even wrote a song, loaded on my KZbin page. Thank you for having these presentations and conversations, I now believe it is essential to throw off the values of white misogyny at the foundation of capitalism, before we can continue as a species

Wow, omg I applied to mental health counseling programs last year and last January it hit me hard getting those rejection letters. I thought wow, I failed, and now I have a whole year wasted. I was very self destructive the first few months after that, trying to distract myself with work from my failure. I’m just picking myself back up, preparing myself to get back into application season deciding to go into Clinical Psychology for a Ph.d/Masters instead since I love research/ and want to have an impact beyond counseling. Although I have a job on campus within the realms of the field, it doesn’t stop me from feeling behind in life. This came at such a great time. God’s timing can be confusing sometimes, but I’m getting back into what I fell in love with, psychology. I feel more ready now. Again, thank you.

I had significant research experience (3-4 years). One published paper in a small journal.

TBH, as an alum, TC admits a lot of people, because it is in the business of selling degrees. Also, it's focus is on the field of education and programs in psychology, are 'something else' that it offers. One huge flaw in the psychology program, I found , is that there was ZERO discussion on how to make psychology work AS A BUSINESS. That is a huge flaw. The debt accrued from attending needs to be paid down. The psychology program does not tell you how to make it work AS A BUSINESS.

The PhD program is funded and has a 2% acceptance rate. The masters programs are a different story. Thanks for sharing your experiences, they differ from mine.
@aviewer2871 Жыл бұрын
I am glad things are working out. Most likely, the masters programs exist to support FUNDING the doctoral program, which are the school's 'big ticket item.' Of course, they will make sure the money is coming to the PHD department, and that it is funded. That is the business. There were those who fought and were sacrificed who came before you, so that future black students do not not have to suffer in kind@@BecomingDrBaker

I agree wholeheartedly other races are being humanized and sympathy from everyone else. However, when it comes to African-American and their tribulations of slavery, discrimination, unemployment, being cheated our of a piece of land, or being in jail through the Criminal Justice nothing but silence. Our worth in society is just seen as nothing yet we contribute the most to society. This is just sad 😔

As an alum, it is good that you knowledge TC's racism. The school does things that make it appear liberal, the school in its heart is RACIST. The school will certainly show its racism, and the counseling psychology program is the worst offender. As an alum, I would not suggest or ask any black person to subject themselves to it. Life is too short.

Congratulations on getting accepted in those schools. You're not alone in having the experience of being rejected from Psychology graduate programs. Lots of people have been rejected from Psychology graduate programs. There's lots of smart people that get rejected from Psychology graduate programs. There's lots of people that graduate college with a 4.0 GPA that get rejected from Psychology graduate programs. Just because someone gets rejected from a Psychology graduate program doesn't mean they're not cut out for the program. There's lots of people that get rejected from Psychology graduate programs that are cut out for the program. Lots of people with graduate degrees in Psychology have been rejected from many Psychology graduate programs before getting accepted into a Psychology graduate program. With many graduate programs, as long as you have good grades, a good personal statement, and good recommendation letters, you're accepted into the program, but Psychology graduate programs take more than good grades, good recommendation letters, etc to get accepted into the programs. Psychology graduate programs typically look at relevant experience, clinical experience, research experience, how well your research interests best match the research interests of the faculty, etc in addition to good grades, good recommendation letters, etc. When Psychology graduate programs select applicants for the program, the first thing they do is eliminate applicants with GPAs below a 3.0, applicants with bad recommendation letters, etc. The next thing they do in the selection process is pick the applicants that are the best in regards to relevant experience, clinical experience, research experience, how well their research interests best match the research interests of the faculty, etc, and those are the applicants selected for the Psychology graduate program. Psychology graduate programs are extremely competitive since there's lots of people that apply to graduate schools in Psychology. The amount of people applying to Psychology graduate programs is a lot higher than the amount of spaces available in the program.

10:58 you have to understand part of the hate intertwined with racism is classism. Apple bottoms is considered “Urban”. Higher tier black designers would not cause as much distain. There is often a fear “black people move in and the neighborhood goes down. Upkeep, crime etc.” this has to do with often not the black neighbors who are moving up, but housing projects being built nearby and people’s cousins in drugs or dealing gangs by proxy. Bringing over fam that is not completely on the up and up gets people into trouble. That’s a minority of us, but take over our brand. And other people see urban designers as playing into that culture. They don’t understand 80% of people in urban west can be professional and on the up and up too. All they know is the news, movies, music stereotypes and they aren’t interested in taking chances. A black man in a suit getting out of a Bentley in a wealthy area may not receive any shit at all where I live. But racism and classism degrees per area is different.
