I am a 65-year-old native from the Red lake Nation Minnesota. When I was about 12, I was introduced to Grover Washington, Kool & the gang's b cuts,, Traffic, Tower of Power, but Sly Stone was my idol. A lot of these b- cuts jazz albums, were a lot of thumping funk jazz like this. I grew up in North Minneapolis and South Minneapolis, along with the Red lake reservation, but every time I was in the cities, I go hang with my black friends, and their parents or older relatives would be listening to this thumping funk jazz. It helped me morph from a.m. radio bubblegum pop, just stuff like, Summer madness by Kool & the gang, Mr magic, chameleon, Sun goddess by Earth wind & fire and Ramsey Lewis. Shooot, we used to ride around in a 3/4 Deuce, listening to the gratitude album, at 14 years old, riding around all night with your flavor of the week. And it was my older native cousins who were in the organization A.I.M, that got me into the blues ZZ Hill, B B, magic slim, "and muddy Waters invented electricity!"and let's not forget Parliament! Now that's back in the daze. Thank you for the jams.
