@@garykline4800 5X so around 5lb since there are some really large fish in there….I may go smaller next time (even if I risk breaking off) since they are so darn hard to catch, the water is so clear, and they spook at anything

@@BS-mo3sc coming in from the north…I believe it’s called the Gill trailhead, right off the road there going towards Deckers. I would change it up next time and throw waders in a backpack instead of hiking in with waders. I do believe it’s possible to hike in from the south (which would be coming in from Cheesman Lake) - Have a great time! I can’t wait to go back to try to figure these fish out

Good catch. The sun is behind you and the water is clear. So, the fish attacked as soon as the fly landed/(or was about to land.) However, if you make this many false casts that works against you the similar way. You may spook many fish.

Nice fish. When the fish gets downstream of you, you can put your rod to the side with the tip practically in the water and "skate" the fish back upstream. Devin Olson covers this in some of his videos.

@@seanculver9487 actually that’s incorrect….dragging fish up the bank on sand or gravel is by far the hardest thing on a fish….that damages the slime coat. I wet my hands and use a rubber mesh net which helps them live for sure

I should add that you don’t need more than one basic rod and reel in Colorado! If you owned an 8-9 foot 6 weight rod, you can catch about 99 pct of anything you would ever want in this state

@@FishOnwithCoachSteve supposedly! They sometimes hide in the deeper section between that island and shore. A guide once told me that a sign to watch for is when there are no trout in that area, the muskie might be there.

Black flies work great….. easy to see in sunlight, glary water and even in the evening. A Letort Cricket is also a killer.

Lovely catch! I really miss the Rockies and catching cutthroat trout. Nothing quite like it so far as fresh-water fishing goes, especially alpine lakes. Being above the tree line, no one else around, it's heavenly. Seeing your video, makes me miss being in the mountains even more.

Lived there for several years, just outside Estes, in Grand Junction, and outside of Divide (atop a mountain with nearest neighbor about ten miles away - wonderful that!).

Greater quality of life than in the US, but that's not to say there aren't great things about the States. Should I reach the Rockies (and I should - have some family in Fort Collins), I'll definitely be fishing. :D
