This scene is very unsympathetic towards the decembrists. It portrays them as sheep being led to slaughter by unrealistic and incompetent leaders, who call for troops to "take the senate" when the cause is obviously lost. Meanwhile Nicholas and his officers look on with solemn pity, stopping his assault even before the decembrists begin to retreat, even though he easily could have kept firing. This is almost surely a distortion of events in favor of Nicholas. I wonder if the whole movie is like this.

It's really impressive to me how Russians are still able to make really impressive and high-quality movies and yet, almost nobody talks about them. Sure, they're obviously nowhere close to matching the highs of Soviet cinematography, but they've not degraded as much as the cinematic stage of most other nations.

This film, The Hurt Locker and Green Zone are all excellent examples of modern warfare but I have to say Black Hawk Down is the best... Everything from the casting, presentation, accuracy, depiction of combat, locals etc etc etc They got this one right...

@DerekUtleyAFSecForce In some situations It's extremely accurate not everything. I mean it's still a movie things are still fantastical. But it gets the overall feeling of what it was like down really well. Especially when they're pinned down with the Brits. The acting is on point too.

It wasn’t actually deleted, it was heavily edited. In the movie it didn’t show all the graphic casualties, just the men coming into the stadium then the CAPT with Ruiz. It was shortened

This film, Union of Salvation, was really damned good. Best depiction of 19th century artillery ever put on film. Too bad its hard to find on DVD for American players. I watched it online for a few dollars before the War. Worth a watch.

To hear officers, who are trained to mantain their calm and composture, starting to scream in fear and agony maniacally, withiut knowing what to do, and see grown ass men with koustaches looking around confused, that has to be one of the scariest sights
