this is a great video series even for those of us who have used ADE for awhile. My PC gave up the ghost last year and it took me several months to save up to get a new one. so after almost a year i am just now getting back into FS9 (there are still quite a few of us who still play FS9. i just bought brand new Virpil hotas rudder pedals and they work with FS9 so i will be playing that till the end of time it looks like.) and i needed a refresher on how to do things. this is perfect. NOTE FOR FS9 USERS: Under Compile you need to click addon scenery or you will have to manually move the bgl file to the addon scenery location for it to show up.

I have FSX:SE, and ADE left the "Shp2Vec compiler" and "BglComp" parts of the new user wizard empty. I've set the BglComp to the following directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\FSX\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK Is this correct? Also, I can't find the directory I need to use for the "Shp2Vec compiler" part. I've made the airport, in ADE, but I can't compile it, now, because ADE left the "Shp2Vec compiler" and "BglComp" parts empty, like I said, so I don't know what to do. I've spent ages on this, and the last thing I want to happen is be unable to compile it haha Any help will be massively appreciated. Thanks

Hello, that is correct however you should run the program as admin every single time as it may have full C access on one run but the next run it may not and that could fire up errors or simply clear out some fearures

@@Soarflyconcepts Ah ok, thank you. I just made sure I ran it as admin just now, and it's still complaining that it can't find the BGL compiler. I'm getting really confused haha. Basically, I need to figure out why it's not detecting the BglComp, I need to figure out the directory it needs for Shp2Vec Compiler, and potentially find an SDK. I've heard that FSX:SE doesn't come with the compiler (or something along those lines) so I'm not sure if I need to download an SDK/BGL Compiler, but if I do, I don't have the slightest clue where to look or what to do once it's compiled lol This whole process has been so stressful :joy:

Thanks for this tutorial. I've been trying various techniques to try to come close to the way the default scenery looks and have never found one that really did the trick. . . .until now! I don't use Photoshop, instead I have Corel Paint Shop Pro 2023. The functions aren't shown the same but after searching for a bit I found them. The result was exactly what I was looking for. The only change I made was with the original ground texture. I changed that to a gray scale and for me it looked better that way. Thanks again. . ."Two Thumbs Up!"

UI complains about being unable to pull/push because of smoothened surface. What could be the culprit for this? Smoothing in PSP, or too large texture tiles? Thanks;-)

A bit of yes, and no, the AFCAD needs to be separated from the ground and you'll need to not surface anything but the runway especially if aircraft park under surfaces

It needs to go into an active scenery folder, nothing specific to it for me it was placed in (Soarfly Concepts Scenery/Newcastle/Scenery) but the most common place is 'addon scenery/scenery'

You can, I'd suggest taking several screenshots and popping them together in a program like photoshop or something then you won't need to scale up too far and get all the pixilated edges. There is a print option too but that basically just prints the image on the screen and it's not huge by any means xD

It SHOULD I say should xD it should be in the main FSX folder of your steam install, should be a folder in there simply called "SDK" Easiest way would be to see the sim in Steam, right click on it and go into the properties and click "Browse Local Files"

I'm having hard time understanding how to flatten the land tho' even in this video I didn't really get it... Maybe would worth if you can to make a step by step tutorial on this, how to flatten the land...in ADE help pages it's something about exclusion to remove the stock background and then add our custom made airport background polygon but it's very confusing and I don't get it...

@@gabeghiby6935 In most cases simply drawing a "Flatten" works well enough , it flattens the area with some exceptions like buildings will be AGL or at ground level so the ground will always meet them, if you have terrain features like roads or powerlines running through the scenery then they will be drawn at AGL but they are usually generated "after" the terrain is adjusted in the sim. If a general Flatten does not generate the desired results then the scenery contains something else that is causing the issue

Is it possible to add ai planes of airliners that doesn't exist in the ade? like pan pacific airlines, I used the ICAO code to add them and also make it so that the list is organized like a is in the top and z is in the bottom

You can set specific airline codes for specific parking locations but unless those planes are connected to an actual AI flight plans (outside ADEs control) the spaces will remain empty. The only way to ensure a specific airline park's at a specific location is to add statistic models but as you know these won't ever move. If the parking spot has no airline code this can be added with ADE I cannot guarantee the list will have an airline that no longer or doesn't exist though

Hello, as far as I am aware you can make the structure but the actual illumination will need to be attached I use a program called AFLT to generate the lights themselves for PAPIs

The LODs are a little limited it is a lot easier to use actual light models or BGL lights or even effects

They don't effect the underlying surfaces, it's just the way that I work. I would recommend using apron links due to the underlying surfaces, saves the need for changing the taxi surface, it just takes on the underlying surfaces property.

Yes pretty much, fs9 has a few limitations but ADE can be used for FS2004 and above, I still use fs9 :) I just create for FSX in these videos because it opens up ALL the features of ADE if you're creating for FS2004 it's exactly the same but ADE only has about 80% of it's features available 😉

@@pjm91788 all you really need are 4 programs to create scenery 1 - ADE 2 - I use Photoshop but an image editor like Gimp or something for textures 3 - a 3D modelling program like Blender or Sketch up And 4 - the sim itself. There's not a whole lot of difference between scenery creation for FSX and FS9. FSX has a few more features such as light effected textures, reflections, speculars etc but both sims are virtually the same when it comes to scenery design. The advantage of not needing to worry about light effected textures does tend to make some buildings and scenery objects look a little strange, bake shadows and add shading in your textures so things look decent.

I just tested for Versions 880 through 1098 and found NO SOURCE CODE for Google. Going to just stay with Bing maps. They are really better as they have no Watermark anyway on them. CHEERS.

The new scenery files need to be compiled and placed into the addon scenery, scenery folder in your main p3d directory. If it is the first addon for P3D you will need to activate the folder as an active scenery library in P3D itself

Hello Soarfly, I am having huge problems getting the sdk to work. As a result I am unable to recreate an airport. I know It's a huge ask but could you possible make a reklaw flying m ranch 7ta7 scenery file for fsx? I have just been trying to add aircraft along the side of the runway and the hanger that sits at the field, i have already created it on ADE but can't compile it. It has been something I have been dying to do but always ran into problems and wasting hours of time trying to trouble shoot the problems. I would greatly appreciate it but if you can't create it I FULLY understand and acknowledge it. Thanks!

Im confused. Why do you need different season masks? Isnt the whole idea of p3d that the seasons change without having to create those night textures and snowy ones? Something Xplane does not do at present.

I dont get why people are still running and wasting time with FSX ans 2004 etc. Why? I'd like to see something like this shown for p3dv4. Or how to take an existing airport and make fixes to it for example changing runway numbers, removing static planes, updating the scenery in general. Thanks

if you have a specific scenery, you need to contact the developer if its payware, to make changes, you bought the rights to use not "alter" and the reason people still watch is because 90% of the FS community start with what they can afford there are 7 other MS based sims to choose from some aren't even available anymore but P4Dv4 being just 14.29% does not make it the most viable option you have FS2004, FSX, P3D, P3Dv2, P3Dv3, P3Dv4, P3Dv5 and MSFS and most will go with the cheapest and considering FSX still runs well on modern PCs and is on Steam for less than a monthly subscription to Netflix a lot of beginners go for that

I’ve been having a go at making my own Manston and I was wondering if you could tell me how to make the ground polygon appear underneath the ADE AFCAD. At the moment I’ve got the satellite image from FSET appearing above things like the runway and aprons rather than as a background.. Yes, if you compile through FSEarthTiles Then add that scenery, your AFCAD will be above the imagery.

Sloped scenery is a 3D model in most circumstances. The easiest way to create it is to make an actual model and give it a hard surface (landable)

If you're talking about the tyre marks it would be added as a ground polygon using a custom texture

I have experienced the same. What I have found is dividing the ground up first works well. If it doesn't work correctly try again, unfortunately it's sometimes a matter of try, try again

You need to use a texture to create the visual elements then using ADE you can create the taxi point element, sitting under the main ground polygon ADE will only generate the unseen part of the scenery

In this particular tutorial I didn't make any runway lights, in P3D the default lights sit on the next layer up, whereas the ground is layer 4, 8, 12 etc for FSX yet p3Dv3.3 and later the ground polys sit on layer -4, -8, -12 etc, so some AFCAD elements show above the ground polys. So the lights you're seeing are just the default runway lights

Teaxtuers should be in a folder called the same for example your .dae is hill.dae the folder will be called "hill" if you encounter issues after using mcx youll need to make sure the textures are in the correct format for flight sim

Be sure to lay a "flatten" down in ADE over the AFCAD scenery, hopefully that'll mitigate the issue failing that unfortunately you have to recompile the scenery and test test test
