At the time of the recording, there was no recital hall in the world that had better trumpet players all sitting together. Just phenomenal

Baruch HaShem, what a lovely performance of some VERY beautiful (if short) music. I especially like the Chassidic Dance the memory of our lost loved ones lives the the spirit the music engenders and the music itself. I consider it an honour to have seen have seen this performed by two very talented ladies.

Great brass playing. But the piece seems like an extended meditation on Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.

This particular excerpt from Pugni’s score struck a chord with my sense of curiosity. Most viewers wouldn’t know the Little Humpbacked Horse by Cesare Pugni due to its relatively recent reemergence from the dustbin of Soviet Era censorship. Another work by a Pugni that has similarly reemerged is Pharaoh’s Daughter. While recordings are rare and only parts of these works have been restored as stage productions, the scores for their original stagings are available on IMSLP. Both ballets, dating from the same period, feature a virtuosic flute passage as an entracte. In the case of Pharaoh’s Daughter, the score attributes separate authorship of this particular passage to Mr. Casare Ciardi. Ciardi played first flute for the orchestra Imperial Theaters at that time. Is there a slight possibility the selection featured in this video is also that of Mr. Ciardi and has been assumed to be that of Pugni, simply because it’s not noted anywhere?

This is probably one of the most humorous, clever, and programmatic recital pieces I've ever performed. If the players do not theatrically "over-play", it might not come off quite as well... ...but (??) isn't that the case with most music? Possibly (??), it could even be enhanced further (not the music - which is perfect, but) via narration before each movement.

Great presentation Mr Friedman, I absolutely adore your Solus for Bb Trumpet. You have introduced me to techniques I never thought possible on the instrument. Kudos to you

An absolute masterpiece ! I get so much pleasure to play for my last classical exam ! I don't know why, but I always thinking about a crime/Hitchcock story...

Dear Mr. Friedman... ...why is there a baroque mouthpiece in the trumpet?

It was a weird idea. I thought I'd give it a try. Didn't work.
