@punishment7356 i started this climb at 1300, but i have been playing off and on for a while. I haven't paid for any courses but there are youtubers i like to watch like robert ramirez for example. I have also taken a few lessons here and there and that probably helped some too. Hopefully thus helps and thank you for your comment!

Hey thanks for the comment! Yes personally i don't think at 400 you need to know much opening theory and one opening for both should be plenty (of course you may want two for black, one for e4 and one for d4). I suggest setups like what i play, pirc / KID / Modern style for black and then i am doing queens stonewall attack for white but there are others. That being said i don't think many opponents at 400 level will be prepared with best lines (even at my level i don't see much main lines), which matters because you can spend a lot of time studying good opening lines against your moves but opponents will not play them. With that being said i would honestly focus more on the ideas of good openings i.e. taking central space, developing pieces, and castling. To be honest though around 400 elo, your time is better spent analyzing puzzles to see the tactical lines and variations you might be missing. (Plus puzzles are more fun than opening theory IMO) I hope this helps some and i have some new ideas for the coming year for videos that i think will be beneficial to many people across different elo ranges and fun! :)

Hey, sorry for the confusion, I have been hovering around 1300 for the past year or so, been playing chess about 5 years but on and off. I have gotten really into studying and serious about learning openings and such within the past 3 months so this is about me trying to push from 1300 to 1500 by the end of the year, hope you enjoy it!
