When Morrison kicks in at 11:11!!! Oh my goodness! It brought tears to my eyes!

Many men and women have found respite from the curse of alcoholism. So sad that someone of Gordon's stature wasn't one of them.

Played with Gordy in Dougie Mclean's band in the mid/ late 80s and we became good friends. I cant begin to say how sad it was to lose him. . .a really fine and good lad and one of the best musicians I ever played with in that genre, truly world class. . RIP Gordon, your tunes will make you immortal my friend.

Are these border pipes or small pipes? What key?
@dannyburns50876 жыл бұрын
The pipes he opens with are Reel Pipes, also known as Border Pipes. The pipes he's playing are his design and they are in the key of A.

A true legend! I played for Gordon at a solo competition in Copenhagen, totally messed up, but he couldn't have been more of a gent about it. Had the privilege of his company for the weekend that we were there, and he was a total scream!

Lots of musical talent from Scotland & across the Atlantic in this show, but rather a shame I thought, that Ulster could only produce four local traditional musicians for this - 2 Pipers & 2 Drummers. :-(
@DonegalRaymie20110 жыл бұрын
There's Cara Dillon, Paul Brady and co too.......but until folk in NI stop seeing NI music as 'Loyalist' music I give in..........Fred Morrison wouldn't be seen dead near a flute band ffs!!!
@Ptarmi9 жыл бұрын
+DonegalRaymie201 I don't really think that Cara or Paul would consider themselves to be of the Ulster Scots tradition, that's why I didn't mention them.
@DonegalRaymie2019 жыл бұрын
Dick Glasgow But you said: "but rather a shame I thought, that Ulster could only produce four local musician...." There is more to 'Ulster', than James Galway, and Flute Bands, LOL!! (Tommy Doherty, should have said!)

"Chan eil an duslach lag" - the dust is not weak. Gordon's legacy to the tunes and those who enjoy them. "Tha an saoghal fhathast àlainn ged nach eil thu ann" - The world is still beautiful though you are not in it. "Cha till me tuille" - MacCrimmon's Lament. Moran taing Gordon and piper468, also Alba & KZbin for enabling Galgael down under to see it.

To think Gordon was actually a passenger in my car once - when he came down to London to give a recital for the Scottish Piping Society of London. The music was sheer magic ! And I got to give Gordon a lift to his hotel afterwards. Music Royalty !!!
