Deeply unpleasant. As someone wrote below, this story was written by a racist French surgeon. The algorithm brought this film up last night and I couldn't stop thinking about it while lying in bed. It seems like an allegory for a sexual predator who is shunned from his community for assaulting his grandson, leaves then assaults and destroys the life of a kind woman who takes him in, and later when no one in his home will take him back, discovers he can "enshrine" himself in an African village and have continual access to young girls there. A thinly veiled power fantasy. I wonder if the man who wrote it desired this life but felt shame about it and decided to put it in a film. Left me unsettled.

And before anyone says I am reading into things - yes. I am. I am also assuming any French army surgeon in the 1920s had distorted notions about African cultures. It is unfortunate to see that ignorance reflected in the otherwise beautiful animation style of this film, and I believe reflects on the unfortunate reality of anti -Black racism in Japan. When I visited Japan with my art cohort the one girl with us who was Black had a really horrible time with shopkeepers and servers in restaurants being rude to her. It is an unfortunate cultural gap.

昔々、ピラミッドが建ったころから生きている、とっても年老いたワニがいました。ワニは、リウマチで体が痛くて、大好きなお魚も自分で捕まえられなくなってしまいました。 ある日、ワニは大好きな孫を食べてしまい、家族から追い出されてしまいました。悲しいワニは、ひとりぼっちで海へ。そこで出会ったのが、たくさんの足を持つ女の子のタコでした。タコは、ワニにたくさんの魚をプレゼントしてくれたり、リウマチに効く海へ連れて行ってくれたりと、とっても優しい子でした。 でも、ワニはだんだんタコの足がおいしそうに見えてきてしまい、こっそり食べてしまうんです。タコは、足が減ったことに気づかずに、ワニのことをもっと好きになっていきました。 そんなある日、タコの足は全部なくなってしまいました。ワニは、タコへの愛情と、タコの足を食べたい気持ちの間で、とても苦しみました。 結局、ワニはタコを全部食べてしまい、苦い涙を流しました。 小•中学生向けにしてみました。

クレイアニメっぽいのにクレイアニメとはなんか違う、セルアニメっぽいのに絶対セルアニメでは無理（じゃないかもしれないけど当時の自分の認識では無理）、不思議な感じなアニメだなーと思ってたけどなるほど、セルに粘土張り付けて絵を作ってたんですねぇ。ナウシカのやたらぬるぬる動く王蟲の蛇腹の撮影方法知った時と同じような目ウロコ
