Big fan of the weenie wheelers! Raleigh 20 to start and that looks like a BSA 18" at the end. Have got one of each, as well as a very nice Sun H frame 22' with S/A twist shift. Lovely and good luck with your event. cheers, mate.

I remember having those back in the 60's and 70's , the ones I had you had to get up to a decent speed to get just enough light to ride with in pitch dark, and you could really feel the extra drag from the dynamo's. The rechargeable lights of today are about 50 times better , but that was the technology of the day , and they did the job.

The old ones created that much drag, they made it real hard to pedal. But they were better than the early battery lights, that lasted 5 mins, and the battery's were expensive to, back then.

As a kid in the early 70s, a Raleigh Chopper was THE bike to have, and if you had one, you were really cool. I didn't have one, lol. I had some German fake version, bright orange with a Sachs 3 speed on the top tube. It was fun but not as cool.

Raleigh bought-up several of its rival bicycle companies - BSA, Carlton, Triumph, Rudge, New Hudson etc - and continued to make bikes under those names for a while. They all had slightly different specifications but essentially they are all just Raleigh bicycles under a different name. Raleigh Shopper bikes were first introduced in 1968, and hundreds of thousands of them were made. They were basically a copy of the much more refined and elegant Dawes Kingpin which was introduced by Dawes in 1964. I have owned and ridden both in my time, and although Raleigh and Dawes both have their fan-clubs, I have always come down on the side of Dawes because they are much better bikes in my opinion, and they just seem to have the edge somehow.

The period chopper bicycles got so abused and were not excellent for speed, off-road or long distance rides: Chopper bicycles got abandoned. I myself have bits of chopper bicycles but they wouldn't make one whole original chopper as originally sold. I suspect the collectors market for nice original 60's - 80's chopper bicycles will be sustainable due to limited numbers of quality survivors. Plus: People remember better times just riding over to a friend's house on their chopper bicycle. It was only meant for that really. Maybe carrying sports equipment or a basketball to hang around then go over at random somewhere else. No internet, no pagers. Even telephones were mostly for only our parents. Our bicycles were our first experience with some freedom. I had a tank of a 5 speed chopper with a gearshift lever on the top tube. Going downhill it was a beast... going uphill made me a very strong cyclist later on.

Hello - I thought you might like to know that BSA stood for "Birmingham Small Arms". For this reason, the emblem depicts three rifles, stacked as they might be when on campaign, in a way which kept the working parts clear of dirt and ground moisture.

This bike is a single speed I assume. Just like my bike. If you can find out what model of Raleigh it is that would help me identify mine. Thank you sir.

That frame with two wheels is exaxtly like my Raleigh. The rear wheel is attacked in the same way. Is the rear wheel a single speed hub? I would also be intetested to know the serial number on the left side of the seat tube. If you find out what model Raleigh that is please say so in your videos as you restore it. Thank you. It's the only frame like mine I've ever seen.
