Kore-eda is my favorite filmmaker, and I think Monster may be his best, tied with After Life. I was just watching reaction and review vids. As a teacher and as a queer person, I was very moved by this from a number of levels. Schools will bend over backwards to protect themselves over the students, over the teachers, and Monster is genuinely frustrating in the most realistic way. Also, it’s one of the most honest and realistic portrayals of being in the closet as a kid. Sakura Ando is the best actor working today, in my opinion, and I was sad she was completely left out of awards conversations. My feelings for this movie grow every time I watch it. It’s so meticulously edited and told, with so many moments seeming, as you put it, inconsequential, only to later pay off as some of the most moving moments in the film. If you listen closely to Ryuichi’s music, you can hear his very real labored breathing, making the music all the more haunting and beautiful.

@@HitoKunioka once in a while is fine ig? but then it's a drama movie, you aren't missing out a ton watching it on normal screens, besides the difference between normal and digital imax isnt that great either. You honestly cant go wrong either way you watch it. If you feel a day trip would be fun, then you get the bonus of a slightly better screen. If you think a day trip is exhausting instead, then you lose the slightly better screen but get the convenience of watching it easily.

I really liked Mahito as a character who was relatable even if he wasn't likeable. It felt as if the trauma made him withdrawn but acting out in extremes which felt like a very realistic depiction of trauma for a lot of young boys, it didn't really try to give a rose-tinted view of it. As a whole the movie was right up my alley and became my favorite of his films. I still completely understand if someone didn't really like it or like the last act because of how abstract it all was, but it really resonated with me thematically and with the message.

This one was definitely bad. Casino Royale was very good and to go from that movie to this one was seriously disappointing. They thankfully got Skyfall right after this mess. While the next 2 weren’t that good either, they at least had enough redeeming value. They were very stylish movies and were well filmed at the very least. I can’t think of much about Quantum Of Solace that’s worth seeing in 2022.

Wha we need to worry about more is people refusing to go and see #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore all because of her comments; I’d highly encourage and recommend everyone [please Encourage as many other people as you can as well please :-) See it as many times as they can in theaters, and even If possible,buy a ticket for it In place of going to see another movie so that way it still gets money without you actually having to see it multiple times. Buying as many merchandise directly related to it as possible will also truly help. Also remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies,then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out…… Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-) Also keep in mind that even though it’s not the best example they have at least one transgender person or someone who identifies themselves as “They” in the cast so much for her transphobia……

Watched it last night for the first time in like eight years and it cracked me up just as much as it did then! (to my surprise, tbh) I'll probably dive back into Linklater's stuff again but I wish we got more film like this. Good slice of life media is hard to come by and movies like this are _also_ such cool little time capsules to go back to. Cool channel btw!

I agree. Not their best. Before I saw this, I was kinda thinking they had some Japanese involvement in writing/directing/design. What they were trying to do was actually pretty brave. i don't think they were intentionally trying to do anything insulting.

Great and honest review. Feel the same. I like it because its a good mix of maturity. More established individuals meeting up again working things out. Still room to plan ahead yet not as naive as the first movie which was the world when I saw it as a late teen. Hey its awesome that we got to grow along with them. That was all part of Linklaters plan, to create a moving time capsule.

This is a great review, I especially appreciate you pointing out Linklater's humanism and arranging it at the center of his vision. I had never thought about it that explicitly and it really adds a layer of meaning to this film.

I've subscribed to your channel. Awesome review. I agree that the action is great, especially as Nolan opted to film most, if not, all of the set-pieces on-location (a rarity in blockbuster movies nowadays). I'm also in the camp of Tenet being on the worst scale of Nolan's movies, though more viewings may change where it ranks in my top list of his movies. Keep up the great work!

What a shame you still didn't upload of the reasons why you found this movie offensive. I know that this movie is not for everyone but personally I loved it! I wonder if the movie was featured based on another country would you had a better first impression? The only drawback I see with this movie is the dubbing and translation department. We non-japanese speakers have no idea what the humans are saying, but can understand based on the emotions, tones, voice acting and clever translations in the movie, just how dogs would do in real life. The initial focus are the dogs not the people. So I can understand that this magic can fade in Japan. As for the cultural appropriation I won't blame you in that part. But just like how some Japanese movies can portray some foreigners in a stereotypical way, I don't think it was always intended to be offensive. But initially this movie is art and art can be interpreted differently for everyone. That's one of the reasons I'm curious about the reactions in Japan.

Did u watch dub version? I saw the trailer with Japan dub and it really bad.
@hylogibbon5 жыл бұрын
Mouth movement for me was perfectly fine. Did they do some weird dubbing in your country? I disagree with the lack of a story. The story was ALITA, and the journey she takes to find out who she is, what she is, what she is meant to do, and what she wants. It's just following an individual and living through their experiences as they mature and go through hardships (both physical and emotional). I don't understand peoples' obsessions with every movie needing some "big bad guy who must be defeated by the end", that just seems extremely formulaic to me. Do we need every single action movie on earth to be that way?
