I think this is my favourite platformer on the SNES after Metroid. Did you ever play the Resurrection version of this?
@MendelsonShape Жыл бұрын
I have played it, yes. It's sooo much harder than this one!
@pixel_fandango Жыл бұрын
Does it run that fast on an actual Spectrum or is an emulator helping the speed because it's really fast and smooth. Very impressive.
@MendelsonShape Жыл бұрын
Although I'm running it on an emulator, it is accurate to the Spectrum's processor speed. It is the exact ROM file of the game.
@pixel_fandango Жыл бұрын
Possibly a dumb question: Is this running on a spectrum? It's really good if it is! - I've not seen it before.

Wow! Did you really finish this game in under 11.5 minutes? How fast can you complete the speccy version?
@MendelsonShape Жыл бұрын
Actually, the time from gaining control to losing it is 9:03.95! This version is running much faster than the original; there would be no way to beat that in under 10 minutes. Plus, I've never done a deathless run of the original.
@eelponna3145 Жыл бұрын

The credit limit for the next game is a cool feature but this game seems like it was absolutely awful on every system despite a particularly fawning Retro Gamer article the other year lol

It was adapted from a cancelled racing game, hence all the pointless driving and the bit at the start where you add modifications to your car.

I did not know the Spectrum could do samples. How is that trick done?
@MendelsonShape Жыл бұрын
There must've been an early form of sound sampling hardware (although I'm not sure if it was ever available to the public). You can also hear some at the beginning of Fantasy World Dizzy, Fast Food, Nodes of Yesod and probably many others.
@sergeidubarev5079 Жыл бұрын
On my Spectrum 48K clone, I'd simply played a tape on a connected recorder, and read MIC port using an assembler program, then played the result back over beeper. That filled memory up pretty fast, and that was 1-bit sound. :D On 128K models, digital samples sometimes were played using software tricks applied to AY-3-8910 sound chip -- see, e.g., RoboCop or Chase H.Q. in 128K mode.

I'm concentrating on games I played as a kid. In particular, I like to go back and beat games I didn't beat back then. I did do a no death run of the newest Dizzy game (Wonderful Dizzy), so I'll have to see if I can dig out the rzx file and make a video.
