You're welcome! And you're right. There's something special going on with that camera. It seems like it should be just like any other Canon DSLR but it's not. And it carries over to the stills side, too. We've photographed events with it recently, even, side-by-side with the 1DX Mark II and while the Mark II images were technically great, the more pleasing images came from the 1DC. It's a special and unique camera.

I use auto ISO on my Z9 all the time when shooting wildlife. With modern sensors and noise reduction software I’ve shot a lot of wildlife at 12600 ISO and after post processing you can’t see any noise. Landscapes I’ll usually shoot a fixed ISO but shooting hummingbirds at 1/8000th, I let the ISO go wherever it needs to go
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 10 күн бұрын
The Z9 is a monster! Modern cameras and especially Nikon have such clean sensors. We use auto ISO all the time with out worry on all of cameras we have with the exception of the Canon 7D and Canon 1Ds Mark III.

@ I tell ya, it sure has increased my number of keepers since I don’t have to fiddle with anything. Set my shutter speed and the aperture I want and then let it rip. In Arizona I was going from bright sun to shade photographing birds and I never had to worry about exposure. Modern cameras have so much latitude as well that even if the exposure isn’t perfect, you can get a great image in post. I do often, especially in bright sun, set the exposure compensation dial to like -1/3 just to make sure the highlights don’t get blown out
@arkhani.
@arkhani. 12 күн бұрын
lol thats not how noise works. If auto iso is causing noise, your exposure was wrong anyway.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 11 күн бұрын
That could be -- but I'm not sure there is such a thing as a wrong exposure. There are only creative exposures. The 7D has a noisy sensor at high iso values. If you are shooting hand held in low light with such a sensor using a relatively slow shutter to compensate for a slow lens and auto iso is on, the camera may push the iso higher than might be desired, which, on the 7D, is not that high.

We had a low of 5 this morning here in Iowa. My community cats were snug in their heated houses until I came out to feed them. I’ve been working on a similar video for dealing with cameras and cold temps. I probably won’t finish it until we get some snow. One thing I added was keeping extra batteries in my coat pocket with a hand warmer to keep the charge up. Not a big deal if the truck is close but if I’m walking around nice to keep them and my hands warm
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 12 күн бұрын
Excellent point about keeping extra batteries with hand warmers. Cold temps really reduce battery performance. Glad to hear the cats are snug and warm! Iowa sounds positively tropical at 5 degrees :-) --- Temp is -16 degrees here as I type this! I hope you get snow soon, I look forward to seeing your video!

I definitely hesitate a bit taking gear into the kayak, especially on the river with strong currents and boulders. But, when we selected kayaks we made sure to get the most stable boats we could find just for this reason. After three seasons with them, these boats have proven to be exceptionally stable and make good platforms for photography. They give us the ability to get shots that otherwise would be very difficult and even impossible.

Many thanks for reposting in 4K! Much appreciated. I think your conclusions probably echo my sentiments with my 1DX2 4K when compared to the C400. Like your 1DC endures with an amazing image, my almost seven year old 1DX2 keeps on delivering as my hybrid daily kit for photo and video projects. The 1DX2 lacks Canon Log, but it benefits from 4K 60p with audio, Dual Pixel Autofocus, and like the 1DC is high bitrate Motion JPEG and a 1.3x crop in 4K. I plan to do a comparison KZbin video between the 1DX2 and the C400, including workflow aspects in post production… but from my initial setup, the C400 is a limitless piece of kit. More to follow…

Thanks! And glad you found the video helpful. We shot an event last night, photo only, with both the 1DC and 1DXII. For the photography side, both cameras worked out great. The high frame rate shooting with the fast shutters in these cameras was perfect for the job. I'll be looking forward to how your workflow compares between the 1DXII and the C400 when you get it. I'm subscribing to your channel so I get the notification when you post the video(s) your planning. Good luck!

Thanks for letting us know about this and sorry for the low-res upload. We are processing the 4K and will upload it later today so look for it soon. Good luck with the camera choice. Wendigo is social psychosomatic cannibalism from Norther Native tribes in North America. People that ate people were said to be possessed and transformed into a beast like creature that preyed on humans. It was a semi-real phenomenon that was self actualized by Native cultures. Killing a suspected Wendigo was highly encouraged and had to be directly outlawed by Western governments as the practice was essentially murder of the suspected mentality ill. Sorry to burst the bubble on the fantasy. 😅

@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions Ай бұрын
Thanks and glad you liked it! We shot the video on the 1DXII. Very similar to the 1DC, but not quite as good in some respects because it lacks clog. Denise has been using the 1DC all month for photo only as a challenge. Now it goes back to shooting video for us and you'll be seeing a lot of that in the future on our channel. It will be the primary video/cinema camera that we use for all upcoming creative work, along with the BMPCC6K Pro. I think you'll love the 1DC and I agree, at its current price on the used market, it is among the best there is (my opinion, anyway). We really enjoy it! We have a fairly extensive set of comparison footage that has sample clips from the 1DC compared with several other cameras, including the C500 Mark II. We will try to get that published on our channel in a week or so. As a preview, the 1DC looks quite close to the C500II. Quite a feat for a camera from 2012. Best of luck and enjoy shooting with the 1DC!

Would you do a video on the C500 vs C400? Why did you get the C400? Even if your review is just on how it feels or practical reasons that would be very helpful.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 2 ай бұрын
Sure. Next time I get the chance I'll do that. Just in case it helps, in using both, the c400 pairs well with the 500 Mark II. There are a few things that are better about the 500 and a few things are better about the 400. Together they complement each other's strengths, in my opinion. Individually, for the single shooter looking for one camera to do it all, the C400 edges out the C500 Mark II just a bit. But that's just my opinion.

I wouldn't say 16mp is low megapixel. We live in an age where most content is consumed on screens where even 8mp photo's are more than sufficient. How many people still want big prints and do you really need the very high dpi for the bigger prints that are looked at from a reasonable distance? I think 50mp is nice when you need to do a lot of cropping, but then you might just as wel get a body with a smaller sensor and buy lighter lenses and save some money. I still use a Nikon D3s (12mp) and the resolution is more than enough.
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 2 ай бұрын
The D3S is a great camera! I agree with you completely. I have not had the need to move to the higher resolution cameras beyond the Canon 5D Mark IV yet. For many things, I think the lower resolution 1D cameras, similar to your D3S, are perfectly capable tools.
@Lez325
@Lez325 2 ай бұрын
I shoot RAW as Pro photographer for me Pixels DO matter my Sony A1 ( I have 2 of these) and they support 50mp - depends on how professional you need large scale prints to look when on an 8ft x 6ft canvas
@visualimagingsolutions
@visualimagingsolutions 2 ай бұрын
There definitely are use cases for high resolution sensors like the one you mentioned. The 100 mp Fuji and Hasselblad cameras are very compelling. A few years ago we had a shoot for a company that resulted in that client printing a 60-foot banner for the side of their warehouse promoting a hiring event -- we shot the image for the banner with a 5D Mark IV at 30 megapixels. Client was happy and it turned out great.

I have a wool batt that my great grandmother had made from the wool of a sheep she raised when she was 11. Her mother and herself carded the wool themselves at home. In the 1930's, she started bringing it to Courtney to be re-carded when she made a new quilt. She gave two batts to my mother, hers, and the one her sister had also had from her own sheep. The wool was harvested from their sheep in 1900. My mother had the wool re-carded two more times at Courtney for new quilts. She used the wool from the sisters wool to replenish what is lost in carding. In about 1985, she had it done one last time as the fibers were getting too short to have it done again and she didn't have any extra wool left from the other batt. She gave them to me and I still have them in storage, safe from moths. I hate to use them in a quilt because they can't be done again and if someone washes the quilt, well, you know what happens then, it shrinks and it would be felted beyond repair. I can't tell you how many quilt batts my mother bought there over the years. She made queen size comforters for years. The last one she made was for me in 1990. The batt of course was from Courtney.
