What a nightmare taking that island must have been, no wonder that battle earned the reputation it has, and no wonder the men who fought it earned the reputation they have. No words..

The magma chamber is filling under the island again, over the years the island has raised making the actual landing area further up the beach now. Eventually it's going to erupt again and take a lot with it.

@9:32 Just for the fact that Japanese officer sword was found on Iwo Jima makes it worth a ton of money. Get it professionally restored and the bid at the right auction would be mind-staggering. You're certainly a better man than me...I don't think that sword would've made it back to the museum had I found it.

Years ago, I bought a WWII footlocker for $35 dollars. It was marked with the original owner’s name. I later found out he was KIA on Iwo. I still have the footlocker, and his name is honored in my home every day.

Sorry, I don't agree with this type of content where so many solders from both sides died, special permission or not. Tours are okay for historical reasons, but scavenging with a metal detector is not, and should not be permitted.

11:00 I’m surprised no effort was made to put up individual crosses on these graves or have the bodies interred back to the US. Just a simple marker. 😢

@JapanTreasureHunters1 I see... It's been 80 years since the Battle of Iwo Jima... Maybe the Japanese Self-Defense Forces recovered everything except the tanks.

Unfortunately they do not do any excavating. They pretty much leave things as they are.

Thank you for an interesting video. Am I right to understand that USA handed IJ back to Japan some years ago? If so, I would love to hear the thoughts on this. I am split, it was hard fought for then. But today after so many years......move on. I don't know......

So what's the best way to actually see this place in person? I know there is a memorial ceremony that you can buy once a year. Are there other ways though? I'm a Marine vet, love WWII history and would def love to visit.

I went to Iwo Jima in 1988 while in the Marine Corps. I think the island was still controlled by the US at the time. We did a battle study, followed by an amphibious assault then we were taken on tours led by Coast Guardsmen stationed on the Island. Then were allowed to explore on our own. We saw lots of munitions and crates of grenades all rusted in the tunnels. There were numerous 20mm magazines for the anti-air/human guns. Then we went for a swim. I'm amazed no one was killed or seriously injured. Lots of fun, Marine style...

I have no idea why ppl are criticizing this video so much, u show great interest in history and i agree - even if its "just" a coin or a casing, its proof soldiers were there, fighting, dying. They are all relics connected to the big tragedy that was WW2.

Hey guys, since you are pros do you have a recommendation spot at Tokyo, having a hard time to find a good spot
@JapanTreasureHunters15 ай бұрын
Finding a place in Tokyo is difficult. Beaches or parks are ok, but keep in mind the finds are supposed to be taken to the police station. We like the mountain trails. Of course following the metal detecting universal guidelines is always good too. Ask permission if private property, take out trash you dig, and fill your holes, if you are not sure of an area, ask.

Why did the Navy decide to stop bombing the island after only 2 days and they coulda napalmed the island a lot more sadly
@JapanTreasureHunters16 ай бұрын
The Navy had bombed for many months prior to the landing and everyday when the planes would comeback for new bombing runs everything was rebuilt. To answer your question, the Navy was also tasked for bombing Okinawa and had to get there as it was important for them to hit the actual "homeland of Japan."

4:00 If you fall from this height (180-200m), you will die instantly☠️ At that time, the U.S. military has sowed the seeds of Tagantagan (a kind of Ginnem family) in this area to the present day. ( Under Japanese rule, the production area of cane)
